| Thread started by: | "Vasectomy v sterilisation" Posted by 5reloaded5 3 May at 01:09
I say vasectomy. He says sterilisation. I say I've done my bit for the reproductive life of our family (nearly 5 children), been poked, prodded, looked at, labour blah blah. What's he done? Had sex. He says no as he knows someone who had it done and caught an infection, boohoo. Who wins? Surely he's been unfair, isn't he?

Hi Jen,
I was chatting to my Dr about this the other day, and in his opinoin, the vasectomy is increasing in popularity due to its only a local anisthetic (spelling is rubbish, sorry) but sterilisation is a full on general, in hospital for the day, and its a major op.
I SAY VASECTOMY!!!!!! hehehe

I'm going to show him these replies and strengthen my case, tho I have stated that sterilisation is non negotiable and that it is really vasectomy v no sex. Given the amount of kids I'll have in 8 weeks and 3 of them being under 5 I don't think I'll miss it for a good 3 or 4 years anyway. Him however...? Thanks again, ladies

The anount of men Ive had to advise before and after a "V".. and its always the same reason, they just dont want their meat and two veg messed with.
The facts are.. V is a day case procedure or maybe an overnight stay depending on recovery from a general.
Because the tube is cut and quatered healing time is 85% quicker than "S", internally and externally.
Yes infection is possible but due to the area, no doubt germs are more prominant and how the indivdual sits carries himself etc are all contributing factors.
The initial recover is 1 week~ up and about but, over all really is about 3-6wks depending on the indivdual and how they looks after them self..fellas are usaully back at work by 2-3wks.
Just go and see a Dr and get him all the info he needs, and like wise for you, Im sure he'll see its the best out come when he realises that you hormones will be 10 times worse after...!!

Vasectomy! Quicker recovery time, minimal pain (at least for him considering you will hear all about it for the first two weeks!) and there are no hormones in danger of being 'interferred' with that could cause you future problems.
My husband wants four or five kids too. I am hoping by the time kiddi number two comes along they have invented a male uterus that HE can carry around. He might changed his mind

is an "in and out job" (lol) so to speak, just a local anestetic and away they go, for a woman it is major surgery like a c-section so deffo vasectomy!!!
i also agree with you, we have done our bit!!
i also think that steralisation come with all the menapause symptoms (im not totally sure on this but my ex's mum was steralised for medical reasons and she went thru the symptoms after she was)
if all else fails wait til he is asleep and get 2 bricks
tina & ben (6 weeks, 4 days)

you could go and see your doctor together and discuss this, if your doc if for vasectomy then maybe your OH will be talked round, especially if the procedure for a woman is more difficult like the other post says...xx
