As Im 34 also, we had the blood tests done for Downs just purley cause of my age, they came back 1:1500 so that kindof put my mind at ease a bit. They dont do the nucal scan here (N.Ireland), we just get the bloods and they are sent away to England to get tested! Wait to you get all your results back Sharon and then make an appointment with your consultant...fingers crossed they come back with the all clear for babs! Try not to worry...I know easier said than done...I was stressed out waiting on mine to come back.

Hey everyone

Well I had my 12 scan today and we saw our lazy lump sleeping away. All seems ok,but ....

Unfortunately baby's nuchal translucency showed up at 3.5mm and the Sonographer has put the fear of God into us talking about high risk of Downs Syndrome and possible heart defects. We're just waiting for the b.test to come back next week before they decide what to do. I might have to go to St.Barts for a heart scan on baby

Scouting the net it seems this figure is actually quite low but I'm still scared. I'm 34 this year and I know the risk gets higher. Has anyone else had this as a problem before or know of anyone? I know 3 people who were fine and interestingly they were all boys!

One good thing though, at least there's only one baby! lol

Would appreciate your feedback.

Love Sharon & 12wk bump
xxx

Hey there, just to let u know that we had the same at our 12 wk too.

The blood test showed a low risk of downs and also the nasal bone was present so unlikely that it could be downs but because the n translucency was high they said theres a risk of congenital heart abnormalities. We dont know of anything like this in the family and we turned down the amniocentisis cos we wouldnt decide to abort, any way we are booked in to have a fetal cardiac scan at 20+3 which will be on tuesday.

The waiting has been awful but kinda looking forward to it now just for peace of mind either way.... ill let u know what happens....
Hope all will be well with your little one xxx

Hey Cheyl

Thanks for the reply. Wow sounds interesting. We need to go to London for a heart scan in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed. As you say either way of the result we're keeping our lil lump so its just peace of mind needed

I guess the good side of this is that we get the bonus of having so many scans of our babies lol Ours was measured today at 7cm so has grown just over 1cm more than last week By the size of me I thought it would be bigger! lol

tc and all the best on Tuesday.Keep in touch

Im 28 and i had the blood test for Downs (never again though) and it came back that i was high risk, 1 in 37 infact.

I cried for almost 2 weeks: I ht the amneo and when the results came back i was fine.

My midwife then told me that she tries to put people off having it as even she doesnt know how they come up with the results.

Take care though& i hope everything is ok x

"Try not to panic....."

Nuchal scan not available on the NHS in my area so I paid for a private one. The thing that they kept ramming home to us was that the nuchal test depends on the scan AND the blood test. One without the other isn't conclusive at all.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is wait until the blood test results are back and see what the combined result is.

We had to wait a day for blood results and that drove me bonkers so I can imagine how you feel having to wait a week. Try to hang in there.

Before deciding on whether to have the nuchal I had a good mooch on the scans forum on baby centre website. Hopefully this link will get you there

I found this mega helpful.

Hope everything is okay.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help on this one, dp brother has downs but I'm not in a position to talk to his mum about that stuff unfortunately. I'm sure all will be well, let us know how you get on.
