I'm not sure your OH would be legally able to drive you to the hospital!! A learner driver must have a passenger concentrating on their driving, which you would not be able to do!!
Is there any chance he can pass his test in 2 weeks???
I think if I was you, I'd take the friend up on her offer!! Save any worries, and your OH can concentrate on you! Also, it will cost more money parking the car at the hospital!! Our hospital is expensive, about £1+ an hour!!!Best of luck with everything!!!

Hi - hope everyone is well.

I wondered if people could give me their opinions on this.

My OH is adamant that he will drive me to hospital when I go into labour.
The problem is he is still a learner driver and has only ever driven to the hospital (on a test drive) once. And that was on a Sunday with hardly any traffic and me sedately in the passenger seat.

The hospital is 30 - 45 mins drive away and I am really worried about his ability to drive me when I'm having contractions (I want to stay at home for as long as possible before going to hospital too). It's my first so I don't know how I'll be coping.

A friend offered to take us (we have no family here who drive) if she could (she has a baby and her husband works shifts) but my OH was put out insisting that he would take me and that he didn't want anyone else there. A taxi would cost us a fortune and also we'd need the car to take the baby home.

I'm actually waking up in the night worrying about this but everytime I speak to him he says it'll be fine and insists that he's taking me.

Sorry for long post - any advice? Am I worrying unecesarily - did other peoples OHs manage ok? He can drive well enough but is obviously just inexepereinced being a learner.

You'd need to be in a position to take over to be in charge of a learner. Also in the worst case scenario if you had to stay in for a week he wouldn't be able to move the car anywhere. I'm not sure what a week's worth of hospital parking adds up to but it must be pretty steep.

Have a ring round a few taxi firms, quite a few of them will do a fixed pre-arranged price for the journey so at least you can budget for it.

Hope your friend is available as this would be much easier.

your other half wont be able to drive u to hosp because u cant concentrate on him and also he will not beable to take the car back home once u have had baby u may have to stay in so best option is for ur friend to take u or taxi all the best leanne

"Test runs "

Morning Cherry...what if he did a few more test runs for you...that would put your mind at ease. You could suggest too that you might need him to help you with your breathing etc and maybe it wouldnt be a bad idea for your friend to drive you. Also that she would be able to get parked etc and just drop you and OH at the main door of the hospital if you wont be able to walk too far if your in established labour. Like you I am wanting to stay at home for as long as possible and will be in contact with the duty MW in the hosp so will be timing it....I live about 35mins away from hosp and thats with light traffic...so fingers crossed all goes to plan!lol

bus, lift from your friend but don't have a learner drive you. You can do without the stress. So can he. You would be paying for parking for however long you're in hospital as he couldn't drive back home and then back alone. More importantly, who would be driving you and baby home then? A learner? You won't be up for it. I'm an experienced driver and my last baby was almost 3 weeks old (more I think) before I felt confident enough to put him in my car. I didn't expect to feel that way as I drive all my other kids everywhere but I did and when the time comes you'll feel protective too.
Take up your friends offer or add cost o taxi fare to one more baby expense.
I hope you take all the advice offered and tell him 'no'
