I'm 20 and found out last weekend that i'm 5 weeks pregnant. I have no idea what I want to do. I'm a university student with a lot of high expectations from my family, so telling them would be really hard. although I know that they'd support me. I do keep trying to think of all the positive reasons why i should keep it, but it's hard to think past the financial stuff and how difficult it will all be at first. I wouldn't be doing it by myself, my partner has been really supportive and is prepared to give up his degree now so i'd be able to finish mine and then he'll finish his course in a few years time when everything is stable and settled.
I have thought about not having it, because then pretty much everything can stay as it is, but having read all the information about it i'm not sure i can go through with an abortion.

any opinions or support would be really appreciated, it's such a huge decision and i really have no idea what's best in the long run

I'm 20 too and found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago. After much soul searching I decided to keep the baby despite my age, I know it will be tough with work as I'm trying to progress but I am determined I can do it! But I am still terrified! My partner was initially very scared but he is being supportive now it has had time to sink in. My family still don't know...

I looked at the abortion procedures and knew there was no way I could go through with it. But it is a personal choice and you have got to do what you feel is is best. Sounds like you have got a very supportive partner and I'm sure he will help you make the right decision. Good luck with whatever you decide hun.

hey Victoria,

I was in exactly the same situation as you fell pregnant last april, had just finished my second year at uni. At first it was really hard to tell my parents as they too had high expectations of me,but once I did they were more excited than me..I decided to stay on at uni, had him in the middle of my last year (Jan 08 now 4months old) and have just finished my course. I wont lie it was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life but I have had so much support from my OH, family , friends and even the staff at uni!

At the end of the day it is entirely up to you, whatever you think will be best. It can be done raising a baby and doing uni. How many years do you have left? Its not easy, but as long as you have support around you and people who will help out, i m sure you will be fine. Talk to your university ( head of your course) as they will be able to give you a clearer view on your options and the support available to you (which there is loads)..with me, the staff were really supportive when it came to my assignments and attendance( basically if i could not turn up, it was not a major issue and was offered loads of extensions even though i did not take them this time).

I cant give you a right or wrong answer for your situation I know how you feel as I went through exactly the same thing, its totally your personal choice at the end of the day and no one can force you into it. Before you do anything really think about your decision maybe talk to the university first and ask them what support is available?

hope this helps and remember it can be done if you choose to keep the baby even though it is not easy!

take care and PM anytime for a chat
