hi hun, my little girl is 5 months now and has only just stopped using her moses basket, i have had the cot in my room from day one as i wasn't planning on using a basket but she wouldn't settle in the cot, so since she was born she's slept in a basket inside the cot...i think this has made a big difference to her moving into her cot alone as she can see everything as she did before.
i bought most of my big things off the internet, i got a cot bed from preciouslittleone.com its by obaby, its lovely, should last her until she 4 ish and was very reasonably priced.
i got lots of other things from kiddicare.com, you can get some real bargains on there! my only advice is makesure you have plenty of places to store things, Emilie's bedroom is full already and she isn't even sleeping in there yet!
oooh just to mention, i have the angelcare monitor and movement sensor pad and i find it the most reassuring thing ever...an alarm goes off after 15 seconds if no breathing movement is detected, i got mine off kiddicare for|£60 but i saw it in TK MAX for £50 the other day...well worth the money!
hope you're well

Hi girls,

Just a quick question for those of you who have already bought baby furniture/nursery things. Have been looking at furniture and feel bit confused as to what I'll actually need immediately - I think we will be having the baby in a moses for the first few months so is there any point spending a couple of hundred £ on a cot when it can be used for something else in the meantime? Also can anyone recommend any good ranges - there are so many I just get confused looking at them all. Anyone else's views would be appreciated.. Thanks. Sarah & 30w blue bump x

I bought a set, cot/bed, chest and wardrobe from Kiddicare, they're based here in Peterborough so it was ok for me and you can order online, but lots of places do deals when you buy the whole nursery set.

Eleanor was only in her moses basket for about 5 weeks, but was handy when she was 1st born as I had her in the lounge with us in the day time, and we took the moses basket (and Eleanor of course) to bed with us at night, so probably worth spending the money, and some babies spend more time than 5 weeks in it, Eleanor was 8lb 12oz and rather long when she was born. She would have fitted in it longer, but she I felt it looked a bit cramped when I decided to start using grow bags for her to sleep in rathter than blankets, she was such a fidgit and one night I found the blanket over her face which scared me, so the grow bags prevent that happening!

We got Eleanor a chair when she was a couple of days old, its a fisher price pink one, you can see her sitting in it in some of the pics on my profile, its quite flat and there is a head support so she is not forced to sit upright, it has vibrate and music on it too, I think it was £60ish, but we get ALOT of use out of it, she spends lots of time in it and has sat in it at least once a day since we got it, we got it from Argos, and they do a jungle themed one, more suitable for your little boy.

Eleanors wardrobe and chest is chocker block, and the cot was handy as it has a cot top changer and we find it easier to change her on that than on the chest top changer.

Any other advice, feel free to PM me, I can only give you my own opinion as to how we have got on with things, but even so...

take care

Rachael & Eleanor (8 weeks, 2 days)

Hi Sarah, I've a friend who works at mumas and popas, and she says NEVER buy prams etc from there!!!
Apparently they are over priced, and often break, or don't last as long as other makes!!!
Hope this helps!!

I have just started buying bits and pieces...mostly I have researched them online. I find Babys R Us really good value, love their my teddy range! The pram I checked out in one of the stores to get a demonstration and then I bought it online...big dif in the price! My parents are buying me the cot for babys room and I am just getting a wee moses basket for the 1st couple of months for beside our bed and to use downstairs as it will be handy carried. Bought one of them musical vibrating bouncers that was recommended by a friend of mine who has 2 kids and she thought it was a godsend!lol

myself ive put both my girls straight into a cot/bed as you spend that little bit extra but you can use the bed up until they are 6 or 7, they hated the moses basket but i know most poeple buy them to get them to sleep in their rooms to begin with, car seat pushchair, steriliser/bottles if bottle feeding lots of nappies some form of bath or bath support with something to wash them with basic clothes towels sheets erm dummies and something to put them on when your not holding them like a flat playmat or a bouncy chair * check ages* i really can;t think off hand what i usually do is go to the shops try out whats there find the one i want then go back online and get it cheaper, with reguards to brands i think its just a case of trying things to find which suits you best
