Hi all

a question for new mums ..

how much is ur baby taking at each feed ? Harry regularly guzzles 5-6oz in one feed, which seems a lot considering he's only 3 and a half weeks old !!

Also, anyone noticed the funny little noises they make ? sometimes it really frightens me but the HV assures me its normal

Hey hun

Thomas is 3 weeks today and as of 2 days ago we increased his feed from 90ml to 120ml every 4 hours, but sometimes he sleeps 6 hours straight, probably once a day so its not always 4 hours. He was born 7 pound 5 and I breast fed for 2 weeks but he seemed soo hungry and i didnt have much milk and got too sore so we are now on cow and gate. We only just increased his feed as he started crying for food after 3 hours instead of 4, but he does sick some up a little more now, im hoping this is just a transitional phase, but sometimes he wont finish off the bottle and will take maybe 100ml and then fall asleep when im burping him.

according to the tub of milk he is to be on this amount until 2 months, but if he seems to get hungrier again in a few weeks then we will increase the amount, all babies are different, my mum just says to feed them what they want when they want and they will figure out a routine anyway, she said my brother sicked up most of his bottle every feed yet he grew up to be a strapping lad with a monster appetite. I also find some times he is hungrier then other times, I suppose like us really, i have hungry days and not so hungry days.

its all very confusing at times though! just follow your instincts. And as for the noises thomas makes this sound like he is gasping for air when he sucks, like when you have just emerged from water, like he has a sore throat or something! ive not had the HV over yet to check it but all my family who have had babies havent said its not normal, so I shouldn't worry, babies make lots of little noises and jerky movement and pull strange faces in their sleep!

Don't know medical terms and stuff but I've been told these are caused by 9 months of having tubes and airways clogged up whilst inside you as your baby didn't need to use them then. It takes a number of weeks for them to clear out completely.
I remember taking my no 3 to the GP for this and he said 'for goodness sake, how many children have you got' like I was meant to know Everything about babies. Charming

has been drinking that 5-6oz since he was Harry's age. Leo is now 12 weeks old and drinks 7-8oz milk. I'v even had to put rusk in his milk to fill him up. I did try the hungrier baby milk but it didnt agree with him. Leo was born a big baby (9lb 7oz) so I just assume that as he's a bigger baby he needs more food. Health visitor was fine with his feeding though so it cant be nothing to worry about.

We'll just be having big babies!!
