well i just had my mw check and well i came out quite peed off!
because of my past history of pre/eclamsia im consultant led instead of mw lead and i didnt have a choice of where i could have my baby i could only have it at the main hosp no water or home births or mw led units which i got used to the idea and asked my mw today do they have birthing balls and use of water ect as i dont wana be shoved on a bed an strapped to a monitor whilst in labour, her reply was no you have to take your own birthing ball an you have to put in a request threw my consultant asking him to ask the mw led unit if i could maybe an thats a maybe have access to there water pool wtf!!! so if your on the consultant led ward you get eff all options an if you go on floor above the mw led unit you get it all......
soz for the rant gals but im slightly effed off xx

Chelle if I were you I wouldnt be put off...if you want something badly enough you might just get it. All hospitals are dif, but Im consultant led care, we dont have mw led units in my hospital. They do have a waterbirthing suite and Im hoping to use it. When I spoke to the parentcraft MW about my queries as I wanted a waterbirth and was worried that the pool would be in use/out of order...she said to be very presistant when I called the on duty MW when I got into labour and say that I want a WB and say that I wanted to stay at home for as long as possible...to tell the MW on the phone before I come down that I wanted the pool and any other instructions/details I wanted...champagne reception etc.lol That Parent Craft MW also told me that the hospital has to take any request for a waterbirth very seriously and that all women are entitled to it! Do an email up to your hospitals patient advocate to see what feedback you get, mine was passed onto the clinical specialist for the MWs and she was very helpful, organised a visit for me so I could get all my fears/questions answered. Dont take NO for an answer, you have rights...put it in writing!

..that I should have the option...and I know things can change come nearer to the time...but that should be my own choice. I think its very important that we make the choices and not be told what to do like school children!lol Yeh rite! A strong minded person like me finds that very hard to swallow...they probably will all clear out and run away when they hear Im coming in to deliver!lol But I have resigned myself that my labour could be something that I might not have any control over and I will have to just go with the flow at the time, but I will make it clear that I need to be consulted on any changes!lol Good luck with your consultant...be firm!lol

here everything is actually all on the same ward but the bay's are different depending on whether your mw led or consultant led so you get exactly the same rooms etc for giving birth BUT again we have the same options as you or lack of them im not allowed a water birth the only thing i am allowed is to change position but i have to let them know as i have to be strapped to a monitor, then again im not really all that bothered ive fallen asleep with my other 2 so long as im left to my own devices im not all that bothered
