"Whilst we're confessing" Posted by 5reloaded5 5 June at 00:29
During my last pregnancy last year I had planned a trip to London to see Roger Waters at Earls Court. The concert was when I was 7 months pg. Not only did I drink far more than any pg woman should the night of the concert, we bought tickets for the next night and done it all again. The great thing about being pg was the toilet attendants just let me in (have you seen the Qs at Earls Court). Yes I felt suitably remorseful for doing this but TBH I knew I would before I done it. Baby Charlie paid me back by turning from breech while we were wandering about Harrods the day of the 2nd gig so I had to self medicate on beer due to trauma incurred. Oh no I read that and I sound dead bad, I'm not. I'm normally really responsible and mature. It was half the amount of beer I woulda consumed if not pg but its just that the guidlines say none at all now so you feel so guilty I've been good this time tho. (nearly)

"Mrs moo grows up!!" Posted by 5reloaded5 4 June at 13:41
Don't worry, it happens to all of us. But its nice to revisit the old life occassionally when your ready to face it all and have good baby sitters. I keep missing my T in the Park mad weekend as I'm due just before it this year and last year had Charlie 3 days after it. By the time I get back to festival land I may have changed so much that I don't even want to go!?
I know how you feel. Roll on Big Brother and nights in

"Wire bra's & eggs!" Posted by jbeaumont1 4 June at 15:16
The MW said that you shouldn't wear wired bra's because the wires could kill som milk ducts/tissue, or something like that!! Who has been told not to eat eggs??? I was told that they are fine to eat, just make sure they are well cooked, or have the lion stamp on them, and are in date!!!! Janice xxx.

never really complied with the "rules" as my mum said non of these existed when she was pregnant with myself and my sister and were both fine i say a little of what you fancy does you good i don't drink anyway and i don;t smoke so if im craving it my body obviously wants it just need to make sure its only 2 chokky biccys instead of 2 packs lol

"How refreshing!" Posted by lisat7 4 June at 09:47
To read this thread. I get sick to the back teeth of people preaching about the "rules"!
I too am expecting my second - my first being a rather tall and strapping boy of 11. When I was pregnant with him, half of these "rules" did not even exist and he is just fine.
So, this time round, as before, I'm working on he principle that my body will make it's own rules. it has decided it doesn't really like booze and butter so not bothering with those (though I have had the odd half a lager when the weather has been nice!)
So I say fair play to you!

"Ooops!" Posted by missbunty 3 June at 22:12
I have spent the last 10 weeks convincing myself that my baby is going to be born with out any legs, or arms, as I went to Paris and ate steak tartare, pasta - with raw egg, and a 10 hour drinking session!! Oops. I didn't know I was pregnant mind.
My midwife convinced me that my baby should be born with all limbs, and that i was not to worry about what I had already done. But the guilt is unbelievable!! I have had a few glasses of wine, and a glass of champagne! When my mum was pregnant with me, no-body fussed about the occasional drink. I think its all gone quite insane, when you spend your time convincing yourself you have some how harmed your baby. I didn't even know that you weren't supposed to sleep on your back (2nd child as well)! I have though, had to force my self to buy an un-wired bra, as mine was really digging in, as am now the proud owner of E cup knockers! Am simply devastated by the horribleness of it, and told my partner never to take a look at them in this coconut slinger.
Again, I have put my self in a guilt racking position, as I now can't stop eating poached eggs, with marmite on toast. I did read that if you know where the eggs come from and are free range, then they should be fine (which obviously made me eat more) but does not stop me thinking now, that my unborn child, has no eyes. ARRGGHHH!!!!!!!!

"And then we all joined the real world." Posted by sarahlharrison 28 February at 10:27
I can't beleive that anyone has suggested that half those thingsa re bad for you. I am 29 weeks pregnant with my second and have broken every rule so far. I ate pate, have had the occasional drink, including before 12 weeks - I was rather well oiled when the babe was conceived if I recall!
I chase around after a toddler of 15 months all day every day. Where G strings as my arse is so big now that the VPL would be intolerable! The list goes on and on....
How come the rest of the world manage to have so many children without conforming to this cotton wool like state. Yeah take care of yourself but yur pregnant not terminal and I beleive my little boy is such a happy and contented wee man because I was a happy contented pregnant woman - I think stress and anxiety due to over worry or an overly restricted lifefyle is far worse for you than eating eggs, having a glass of plonk or snaffling the odd peanut M&M.
Motherhood is guilt ridden enough once they arrive - lets give oursleves a break and live life - isn't that going to be what you want your kids to learn.
Take care of yourself and listen to your body - they reckon cravings are a sign of a 'need' for your baby. Be glad your not bent over double in a paddy field with your last baby strapped to your back and enjoy.

"Now i am worried!!" Posted by summer57 27 February at 13:36
I love my hot bath at night. I am only 10 weeks... is it really a bad thing? I eat peanut butter and love diet coke!! What harm can it do? I know peanuts can be a problem, so I have stopped that!

"See-through big knickers hey?!" Posted by daisy260 24 January at 17:42
What's wrong with hot baths? I couldn't live without baths, esp while pregnant, blimey.
I've had the odd drink, although I have stuck to red wine and I don't really see the problem there - in Europe pregnant women are actively encouraged to drink it!
It's just not possible for many women to stick the rules, hard and fast - like you say 'desperate times, desperate measures', sometimes things just need doing and there's no-one else to do them! Esp re driving.

"God, i'm sure you're fine!" Posted by missmachin 24 January at 17:26
A friend of mine had a baby at uni (and then went on to get a first!!) and must have almost pickled him in vodka for the first three months as she didn't realise she was pregnant and we used to go to Vodka nights where shots were 50p. He turned out fine and is npow a lovely little boy of six. I think doctors are usually a little over-cautious with health warnings for pregnant women, because at least then you've been warned, if you see what I mean!

"Bad things!!" Posted by tash16 28 February at 17:16
Well up until i was 2 and a half months pregnant i was always drinkin vodka and allkinds. Also every night i have a really hot bath and every day i walk around with an hot water bottle tied to my abdomen as i find it does relieve the pain, i have also been eating alot of boiled eggs and had bad cravings for pancakes which includes eggs, and according to the midwife, the baby is fine and healthy. I think your baby will be fine, just try not to worry as much as i have been told that is the worst thing you can do as it puts the baby in distress.xx

"Woopee" Posted by lauramary 4 June at 10:02
i'm so glad i'm not the only one! i have felt guilt-ridden and worried for the past 4/5 weeks of knowing that i'm pregnant (i'm 13 weeks today). for the first 6/7 weeks when i didn't know i was still doing the usual things a girl does - binge drinking every weekend, been on a couple of rollercoasters, ate loads of peanuts etc etc.
i'm sick of hearing all this crap about what you CAN'T do. we're not supposed to use fake tan - er what?? i cannot go the whole summer as white as milk! and using mobiles will make my baby have behaviourial problems - ffs.
my mum used to drink guiness for iron when she was pregnant with me and my three brothers - and we're all fine.
i'm no longer going to feel guilty when i want to have half a lager or use some fake tan!

"Hell yeah!!!..." Posted by sambo178 4 June at 11:45
I have broken all the rules too. I have had a hen night to attend few drinks on that one, a wedding and several other social bashes. Although I was very good up to 12 weeks with the booze. However, my 12 weeks fell on New Year's Eve and I did have a good 3/4 bottle bubbly!!!!! Well.....
I do have a good few glasses of wine a week, I mainly stick to red although do have some rose and white occasionally, it's so hard not to.
I have eaten bowls full fo peanuts and I plan on driving right up until I am in labour!!!!
I think if anything is wrong it would be picked up.....but sometimes I do get the major guilt feeling and I know when bubs is born I will feel really bad but as they say a little of what you fancy does you good. And, as most of us know, it wasn't like that in our mother's day!!!!
Here's to us all having healthy happy babies, try not to worry too much girls!!!!
Sam & 34+3 bump xxxx
