"Did your doctor give you a pregnancy test?"
Posted by bec123 10 July  at  20:53

Hi all!

My period is four days late and I've got three positive pregnancy tests upstairs! I went to my doctor today expecting to have another test (I like to be sure!) but she told me that they don't bother testing if you've had a positive home test result, as they are so accurate. Has anyone else been told this? Three positive tests aside, I don't exactly feel pregnant and was hoping for confirmation today, to be honest!

They did do them the first 2 times I was pregnant (both ended in m/c) but that was back in August and then November. This time when I went to the drs I waited for them to ask me to take a test but they didn't mention it. Then at 6 weeks when I had to go to the Early pregnancy Unit after I had a spot of bleeding they told me to take a sample in with me but then never tested it. They just asked me what date I had a positive home pregnancy test. They obviously don't do it themselves anymore x
"Yes and no!"

I found out I was pregnant in December, only beause I went for a smear and the nurse queried my dates and we suddenly realised I was a bit late so she did a test to be on the safe side ahead of doing the smear, and that came back positive. However - I miscarried in January.

I then found out I was pregnant in February, and having done a home test (or 20!) by the time I went to the docs they weren't interested in testing me since I'd got positives at home...

Your home tests are probably all the convincing they need, congratulation by the way!!

Congratulations to you too! It's sunk in a bit more now.

Thanks for the info.

"Nope!"

No test at my doctors, they just took my blood pressure and told me to make an appointment with the midwife. Said they didn't need to test again if I'd already had a few positives with home tests.

Don't worry hun it's early days and I'm sure you will soon have lots of lovely symptoms... I didn't feel pregnant straight away and then I ended up with every symptom under the sun!

Take care

"Me neither!!!"

i took two home pregnancy tests, 1 of which was a real cheapy but i was told the same thing that they don't test at docs anymore. guess it's just a new policy plus cost cutting like everything else!!!!!!!!!1
if i remember i don't think i felt exactly pregnant either never had any actual morning sickness just felt sick, so don't worry if your not getting any other symptoms yet there's plenty of time for then to start!
take care

Hey Laura,

Thanks for your reply. I'm only five weeks and feel sick already - not sure if that's right or if it's psychological...!

Yeah, I know what you mean - when I told my doctor I didn't feel pregnant, she said 'just wait till the sciatica, heartburn, waddling around, etc!' Thanks, Doc lol

the tests at home are as acurate as the ones at the docs so dont worry.

Ace, thanks for that Rach. Congratulations by the way! Twins, blimey that must be hard work! Bless them.

The test I did shows two lines if you're pregnant. The instructions say that if the second line is slightly fainter, you're still pregnant, but I find myself questioning it! I'm only five weeks, and will be over the moon when it finally sinks in!
"My test was the cheapest test..."
Posted by lisat7 11 July  at  13:19

in the world (2 for £1.00) and the line was fairly faint

I went to docs and they sent me to treatment room - the nurse produced a test and guess what? It was the same cheapo thing!

So, I wouldn't worry. If you got a positive on your home tests all will be fine

Hi Lisa, thanks for your message. I did try a couple of expensive ones, along with two cheapo ones from Boots (not as cheap as yours though, that's quite a find!!) lol. Love the NHS for having those tests, that's so funny.

The lines were faint on my tests, but they are definitely there. Can't quite believe I'm pregnant!

i did two cheap(well cheaper!!)ones from superdrug and the lines were soooo faint i thought i was actually imagining them being there! OH could see them though.

went out next morning and bought a CB digi-positive! just says 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant' so no uming and aring over lines.

congrats by the way

I bought two double packs of First Response tests (it was buy-one-get-one-free, which for some reason struck me as quite amusing). I just bought my fourth and fifth pregnancy test from Boots - uber cheap ones, I must admit - but the first one didn't work. Serves me right for not trusting the first lot, I guess! lol

Thanks for the congratulations! It seems quite weird to be being congratulated as we're keeping it hush hush for a while yet.
"Pound shop"
Posted by micandchris 11 July  at  10:59

Cheap pregnacy tests at the pound shop, 3 in a pack and all worked well, well all but one but that was due to my partner messing it up. For peace of mind when they were positive we bought a more expensive one and did 2 more test lol and they were positive to. |With all the symptons that i have if must be a yes - 6.5wks and feeling terrible lol and already fat! nothing to do with eating too many pies
"Hi!"
Posted by bec123 11 July  at  19:45

Aw bless you! Yeah I feel bloated too. I went to the loo about eight times today at work. I thought that you had to be heavily pregnant for that (because I thought it was to do with the baby pressing on the bladder) but I don't know now! Congratulations by the way!

"Hey hun"
Posted by spurgie 11 July  at  19:55

the needing the loo a lot in the early stages is normal, its because your uterus hasnt moved up out of your pelvis yet as too early, but it is expanding to make room for your baby, so at the moment, uterus is pushing on your bladder as it grows. it moves up out of the pelvis at about 12 weeks and then you get a bit of relief...........until the latter stages when bub is bigger and pushing back on your bladder again!

enjoy your pregnancy, mine flew by........and im now nagging hubby for baby no 2!!

love to all
kelly and oliver, 22 weeks today!!

"Hi!"
Posted by bec123 11 July  at  20:04

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for your reply. It's nice to know that I'm not imagining it! It still hasn't sunk in. My OH and I were wondering when to tell the families. We wanted to wait until three months but keeping it to ourselves is making us feel like it isn't really happening. I've got my blood tests on Wednesday so it will feel real THEN (ugh hate needles!) lol

Love from Beckie xxx
"Don't worry about the blood tests "

I HATE needles and had never had a blood test before... I was very scared but I barely felt a scratch, it didn't hurt at all! Hope that makes you feel a bit less nervous!

"Much better!"
Posted by bec123 14 July  at  20:42

Yes, that makes me feel much better, thanks. I've never had one before. I was looking at the veins in my arms the other day, to see if they were easily accessible or not! What a dope lol
