I eneded up getting one from mothercare, we don't have john lewis near but i love that shop! It was £17 and it looks huge! Well he's still in with us at the minute but i'm working up to it, i've started massaging him with dreamtime cream after his bath now and then will start doing it in his room so he gets used to being in there at night plus will help him to sleep. I've also got a mobile that i've started to play after his last feed and then will play that in his room. Do you think i should feed him in our room then move him or feed him in his own room? My friend suggested doing everything the same then just moving him when he falls asleep but he'l wake up and wonder what's going on?!

Hi everyone

The time is here to put Zac to sleep in his own room, he's in a moses basket at the side of our bed at the minute but he's getting so big for it now his head is touching the top the poor mite! I've got his cot all ready but a just want to get him a couple more things to help him settle in his own room:
A grobag- so he can't kick his covers off and wake himself up.
Cot bumpers-otherwise i'll be worried he'l bang his head in the night.
A comfort blanket-he hasn't got one at the minute but really want something he can be familiar with?
A night light and mobile-does anyone think these are necessary?
He's got a good routine going at the mo, he has half his last feed about 8.30 then bath then rest of feed and sleeps through.
Should i let him fall asleep in our room as usual then move him to his room? A friend suggested starting a bedtime story but i'm worried this will stimulate him-am i ridiculous or what!!
I've got a monitor but will still be fussing all night about him-kno i won't get much sleep! My OH says he'l be fine and we need to do it sooner rather than later but he doesn't worry about him like i do! His room is down the landing from us to i would feel so much better if he was just next door, aargh.
Anyone got ANY tips to make the transition easier, please help!

Thanks Anne-Marie & Zac 18 weeks fri.

thanks for your replies, i'm just so wet! The thought of having my little baby down the landing from me just worries me too much.

I'm off to mothercare today to get a grobag so i'll ask about the cot bumpers. As for the cot in our room we also can't fit it in, there's no room at the side of our bed.

Gro-Bag as in the make, I got Eleanors grow bags from John Lewis, the stores own ones, only £16ish, compared to Gro-Bag ones which are up to £30, just a tip to save a few pennies, plus, the John Lewis ones were a nicer material with nicer patterns, in my own opinion.

to be honest i would just put him in-less fuss the better!lol

first time around i think you worry about every little thing and you really dont need to he will be fine!

if you start giving him comfort things ie blankets etc be prepared to have hell trying to get them back off him....my friends girl is 5 and still takes he 'raggie' doll most places with her and wont sleep without it.

also im sure cot bumpers are a no go under 12 months? read what the label says but im pretty sure its to do with suffocation-if they pressed their face against it in the night and could roll out of the way.

i never had the moses basket to cot transition as mine went straight into a cot.

good luck

If he has to move into his cot can't you have the cot next to you instead of the basket for a bit longer?

Eleanor is 17 weeks old tomorrow, just a tad bit young than Zac.
She has been in her cot since she was 5 weeks old as I didn't feel the moses basket was roomy enough for her. At the moment the cot is still in our bedroom, but it is definatly time for her to go in her own room, I have been saying I'll do it for weeks, but really, this weekend, she'll be in her cot in her own room.

Eleanor sleeps in a grow bag, I moved her into her cot the day after I found her in her moses basket with a blanket over her head, it petrified me, I didn't want to pull it back as I was fearing the worst - obviously she was fine! I have 3, so if ones in the wash and she was sick on one or something, I still have an extra.

Eleanor has a mobile, when she has a restless night I put it on, and she does like looking at it.

I haven't got a cot bumper on, although we bought one, when I asked on here it seems they're not recommended anymore, if you feel you want to use one, I think the risks are low, but for the latest recommendations you could ask your Health Visitor.

Eleanor has a comfort blanket, but I don't send her to bed with it.

I don't have a night light, I don't see the need, but if I was to get one I'd probably choose the gro bag night light thing, it's in the shape of an egg and also lets you know if babys room is too hot, too cold, or just right.

Eleanor goes has a bath at about 6.30, then a bottle, then bed, up until last night she was sleeping through, 12hrs, but I think she is ready for weaning as for a few weeks she wakes every night, I started her on baby rice, just 1/2 tsp for breaky a couple of days ago.

Is Zac doing anything new?
Eleanor rolls over and back again on her own now, I'm very proud, she did it for the first time yesterday and now loves rolling (show off! he he)

Are you on facebook?

I read that back, and it sounds muddled.
Up until a few weeks ago she slept through for 12 hours I meant, for the past couple of weeks she wakes for a feed at about 4am.
Tried Hungrier baby milk and it made no real difference for her.

Also, I now put Eleanor to sleep in her cot during the day for naps, she cat naps for 5mins in the morning and in the afternoon in her chair, but mid morning (now actually) she is alseep in her cot, I started this a week or so back, I know it seems early, but it's what you do as they get older, so I thought I'd get her used to it now.

for your advice hun. Zac is doing loads of things, he rolls, not all the way over though, holds his head, smiles loads and laughs, right now he's screaming for his bottle though! I'm not on facebook but i will pm you on here when i get a min if that's ok and we can compare!

Take care xxx

Hi Annemariel,

I put Emily in her cot 2 weeks ago, she is the same age as Eleanor, but she is in her own room, as we could not fit the cot in our room.

In regards to a night light, the green light from the monitor works as one so i dont worry about that.

Emily sleeps on her tummy so a grow bag is out for her, mind you saying that, i did find her halfway up her cot and upsidedown! hehe bless her

Take care

Love Karen&Emily (16weeks and 6 days old)
