Hi girls,
Sophie Amelia Rees finally arrived at 2.59hrs on Wed 9th July 2008 after a 6 hour labour, she weighed in at 8lb 11 oz and is gorgeous.
I went in on Tuesday morning to be induced, after 2 prostin, nothing had happened so at about 8pm I sent Chris home to get some sleep. No sooner had he left but my contractions started. They were about 1 min apart from the beginning and very strong. I had been 2cm dialatred all day and when the MW checked me, I still was. They wouldnt let me call Chris in because he couldnt get access to the ward until I went to labour ward so I laboured on my own for 4.5 hours before she checked me again. I was 5cm and at this point they arranged to move me to labour ward. On the way over Chris appeared, he said he came in on the off chance (weird and wonderful). By the time we had taken the 1 min trip to the labour ward I was 9cm dialated and she was on her way. At this point I'd had paracetamol and pethadine, and was greatful for the gas and air. 1 hour later after an Episiotomy, Sophie made her entrance into the world. It was the highlight of my entire life and I'll never forget the joy of seeing her for the first time.
I've been left with 18 stitches, nappy rash from my maternity pad and the dreaded piles (oh the joys of child birth) but OMG, she is so worth it. Dont get me wrong, labour is painful, nothing can prepare you for it and no one can describe what it feels like, but what I can tell you is that holding your baby in your arms makes every single moment worthwhile.
I'll post some pics as soon as I can.
Lots of love.
Sarah & 6 day old Sophie, (the love of my life) xxxx
