"Antenatal classes - when to book?"
Posted by alie1973 4 September  at  15:20

Hi Ladies,

I mean't to ask my Midwife this question on Monday but the pregnancy brain kicked in and I forgot ;0)

When should you start to book Antenatal Classes? I know that these classes get booked up and I am worried that if I leave it until I see my midwife next time which is mid October I may miss out as the classes will be full...

Am I stressing over nothing or do you think I should call my midwife for the details over the phone. When did you book your classes.

Also, anyone been to NCT antenatal classes and do you think they are worth it, as they are expensive?

Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
Natalie (17+1)

We did a private active birthing class but if I'd known how good our local NHS ones were I wouldn't have bothered.

We had 3 NHS ones:

1 Active birth
2 Pain relief options
3 Looking after baby

and they were all really helpful. However in some areas all the NHS offer is a hospital tour so it's worth finding out what you get.

28wks but didn't start them until 34wks. You have to book them quite a bit in advance around here. I booked mine over the phone with the mw. You're not stressing, its just good to get everything in order. You sound like your a "planner", like me!

We also went to private antenatal classes but I'd say save your money for baby stuff! Ours were £160 for a full day and one evening class run by an NCT trained teacher. In hindsight, I wouldn't have bothered but at the time we didn't think our NHS class went far enough. Now our baby is here, the NHS one was sufficient, the rest of it is Mummy's instinct!

someone else left it so late and I'm not the only one, will be starting mine at 36 weeks and was panicking I'd left it too late. Had to change hospitals so that delayed everything, just hope she doesn't come early now!

Love and hugs,

didn't realise that you have the classes that late into the pregnancy... I am only 17 weeks - my midwife will think I am a sandwich short of a picnic... ;0)

I will speak to her in October when I will be 24 weeks.

Thanks v much
Natalie
