"I am" Posted by fairycakes84 5 September at 23:58
returning to work after christmas - Harry will be 9 months old - I will be working 4 days, the kind of job that I have means that I cant cut my hours down any more than that. 0 Harry will go to nursery one day a week ( which isnt so bad as its owned by my best friends mum ), my mum will have hin for one day and then OH mum for the other 2 days. Kind of dreading it, not only leaving him but the chaos in the mornings !!! arrrgghh

I plan to go back to work... but financially we can't afford for me not to. I'm going back once my paid maternity leave finishes.

I opted to stay at home and work as a childminder! It's best of both worlds and great for my own kids as they have such a good social life!

"I.." Posted by lisa28275 5 September at 09:48
Ive only ever worked part-time since having my son 3 years ago. It just wasnt possible for me to stay at home full time for money reasons, but at the same time was completely impractical to work full time with the cost of childcare. I only work 11-3 or 11-5 on 5/6 days a week and it works out well for us. My son goes to nursery for 3 of those days, my mum has him on a saturday and then OH has him the other day(s). Luckily he works nights, so is at home during the day, but doesnt usually get up till after lunchtime so cant expect him to have LO everyday, he needs to sleep! It has cost us quite a lot in nursery fees tbh, but thankfully now he is 3, he has just started on a funded place from 1st september so that will save me some money while Im on mat leave. phew!! Once Eden is 8 months old I will be returning to work, so she will also go to the same nursery.
If I had the choice tho, I would much rather stay at home with them, I hate leaving my babies! Hugs Lisa n 10 day old Eden x

"Stay at home " Posted by rach17842 4 September at 20:16
i worked full time as a hairdresser before my twins..
just never got round to going back! when they were about 7 months i went back part time-one day a week(on a sat so OH has them)..
when they were about 9 months we found out our daughter had cerebral palsy and that was the start of a long hard road.
eye tests(6 months), physio(weekly), portage(weekly), occupational therapy(weekly),speech therapist(few times), botox injections for her muscles which invole a gereral anasthetic(every 4 months), apps for splints for her hand and leg(roughly 6 months),..also MRI scans which is also a general anathetic...the list goes on.
...anyway there is no possible way she could go full time nursey as she wouldnt be able to attend her apps..
also the child care is a major thing- roughly £40 each for the day. i wouldnt even earn £80 per day and thats without getting up at the crack of dawn to get them sorted!
besides i love my kids and love being a mum so if a can stay at home why not? when they go to school i can work as many hours as i want..

"I wish" Posted by 5reloaded5 4 September at 16:58
I could stay at home but it won't be possible. I earn too much money and it would be far too much of a drop and as your lifestyle suits your finances then mortgage, size of house etc is dependant on my cash as well as OH's.
When I had Jude I was gagging to return to work but with these 2 babies I never want to leave them (just want a bit of help with them tho he he)
I'm hoping to win lottery, invent something or come up with some other cunning scam to allow me to chuck work but so far.......nothing!!!!!

"Great idea" Posted by nicki313 4 September at 21:22
that'd be a fab idea thing is its nice because you can ask what seems to be the silliest question in the world and about 5 other people say oh im glad you said that and you get advise and a shoulder to cry on or an ear to bend without someoe huffing at you

"Stay at home!" Posted by misschiefy 4 September at 16:40
I'm hoping that we can afford for me to stay at home with Elise until she starts school, as my mum did. I must admit I hated my job anyway (although I told them I'd probably be back after my years' mat leave), so I'll just play the game for the moment. I hadn't been there long enough to get mat pay so it doesn't make much difference to them.
We have the usual outgoings like everyone, mortgage, bills etc but I'd been saving while I was still at work and I've got a bit saved to get us through the first year or so - if I don't go on any spending sprees @ Bluewater! I'm really trying to be good with money now. If I did go back to work, I'd want to go part time and ideally want to wait until she's around three or so and my mum could look after her for a few hours a day.
Its such an individual choice and there's never a right answer. You just have to do what you feel is best for you. For me, I wouldn't want to miss out on the special moments and just want to be there for her.
Much love
Misschiefy & Elise (12 days old) xx

"Hey hun..." Posted by spurgie 4 September at 16:14
i worked full time as a legal pa before having oliver.
i was umming and aahing about whether to go back part time or not at all and i really was in a tizz about it. i knew i didnt want to go back and leave oliver with anyone, be it in nursery or with my mum or MIL because i want to spend as much time as i possibly can with him.
anyway. as it worked out, i fell pregnant again so i will be going in to see my boss when my mat pay finishes (the end of this month) to gleefully wave my resignation at him!!
i am lucky though that i am in a position where i dont really need to work - my husband has a well paid job and we bought our house 6 years ago, so by most standards, our mortgage is not too big, which makes a big difference.
love kelly, oliver nearly 7 months and 9+3 bean xx
