Hi girls,

I have always laid harry to sleep on his back as per sids prevention advice .. however, he has recently started to roll over onto his front in his sleep - arrrggghhh.

I can hear his doing it and he sometimes starts to cry as he cant seem to roll back... but when I go to turn him back around he wakes up .. .for the past 2 nights I have hardly slept as Ive taken him into bed with me in the middle of the night !!!!

is this normal ??? and if so, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Jo and Harry - 4 months old xxxxx

Hi Hun

I had this very problem with Oliver when he learnt to roll over onto his tummy, but he couldn't get himself back again. He didn't want to sleep on his front, he just couldn't get back onto his back again. It nearly drove me mad.

In the end, I made him a kind of bolster thing, by rolling up 3 or 4 handtowels, I put him at the side of his cot and then put the bolster on the other side of him, but under his sheet so he couldn't move it. The top of it is sort of under his arm if that makes sense so it's not up round his face. It works a treat. I did mention it to my HV and she said a lot of people have to roll things up and put them next to bubs to stop them rolling about in the night!

As soon as I did this he started sleeping all the way through the night again and I can have some sleep!

My wee boy is nearly 11 months now (cant believe it) and has slept on his front since about 4 months too. I tried and tried to turn him on to his back but it was no good, he kept rolling on to his front. I was very worried to start with though.

So yeah i think its normal...Logan sleeps in a sleepin bag too so he wont get cold if he rolls away from his cover (if that makes sense).

used to do the same as you flip them over when they were asleep and if they woke up stayed with them stroked their tummy until they went to sleep some mums are fine leaving them but i always turned them back over until they were able to roll all the way xx
