Hi all...just a question if thats ok?
Im currently on cipralex (escitalopram) an anti depresssant i have been on them for about 2 years as i was diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder and panic attacks...im longing for a baby but im so so scared of if i have to come off the medication and go back to square one...also i feel sad when i see other women who are pregnant and having a good time...if that makes sence! My brothers girlfriend is 7 months pregnant at the moment and i am going to be an auntie for the first time...my mum and my partner said it will be ok but im not so sure im just scared if i wont bond with my baby or have an anxiety or panic hell when i am pregnant..i would like to know if anyone has been in the same position as me and what the outcome was if they had a baby or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Love and Light

I have been suffering with panic attacks and anxiety and depression for five years now and I am nearly thirteen weeks pregnant before I refused to take any thing from the doctor as I watched my dad become addicted to valium ( diazepan) over twelve years, but the year or so it has become totally un bearable so I started taking potters new relax and it really helped, i got it from the health shop. I started to feel really centred over the last few months and stopped taking them i mean I get really bad days but I also get really good days now. When I found out I was pregnant I was like oh oooohhhhh ummmm because it was not planned and I was worried because of my panic attacks but for some reason I havent felt anxious in the slightest it has given me something to focus on apart from me and how I am feeling I feel my hormones are more balanced its like I have got this special secret that is sacred to me and a part of me thinking happy thoughts helps. I am using lavender and chamomile to help relax me I make sure I eat things that will stop me getting low blood sugar levels this helps with anxiety there are also other herbs that can be used that are safe to use when you are pregnant. I hope that I have not over loaded you with information if you need any advice don't hesitate to ask, but its your decision womens bodys' are designed for pregnancy and even though there is alot to be unsure of if you ask questions and listen to your intuition you will be wonderful Peace and Harmony xxx

Hi Phoebe,
I'm currently 8 months pregnant and was on cipralex for 2 years up until 2yrs ago. Although I was taken off them a long time before I was first pregnant I still worry that I may be vunerable when the 'baby blues' start. I spoken about my worries to my midwife, gp, partener and parents so they will all support me if I need the extra help. Knowing they will all be patient and supportive makes me stronger already and as long as you talk to the people around you and make things clear how you feel then things are a lot easier. The fact that a baby is inside you relying on you makes you a lot stronger and determined to get through anything and some days my feelings are really maternal and others I worry about doing the right thing. This is natural and with everyones help I'm sure things will be fine. People around you love u and will help if u ask. Just dont keep things to yourself as thats when your problems seem bigger and u feel unable to cope.

XX Good luck whatever you decide

I can't answer your question as someone who knows your situation, as I have never been on anti-depressants - all I can say is that just maybe the idea of having a baby will help you to overcome the depression itself, and help you to slowly come off the tablets. It might give you the inspiration you need to help yourself, if you see what I mean. I think that anti-depressants are an important way to help, but they only suppress whatever the problem is in the long run. Speak to your doctor and see if they can suggest a way through - they know the full story - and it might give you something to look forward to.

Hope that helps x
