Hi girls,

I'm confused (again) - how long can babies be in their car seats for? (ie, those rear facing carry chair things that look like baskets).

Is it 2 hours maximum or have I made that up? I've been thumbing the instructions for ours and can't find the answer but I'm sure I heard there was a limit...

Thanks

Love N xx (32+3 pink bump)

its reccomended that a baby spends no longer than 2 hours a day in a car seatdue to it putting unneccessary pressure on lungs and stomache etc as well as spine. if you are making a long car journey you can travel for longer but take a couple of breaks ... i think what they are trying to discourage is the thousands of babies being squished into car seats on travel systems for hours on end every day rather than the flat lying prams... sure its fine if its just short trips round local shops tho .Also they shouldn be used as an alternative to a baby bouncer when you are at home ...only if you are visiting someone on odd occasions

hope this helps... sorry it really bugs me to see weeny babies all hunched up in those things for day long shopping trips...even worse to see big babies crammed into them.

I think your right, i'm sure it is 2 hours. It's to do with the spine being curved in a car seat for too long isn't good for them. If your travelling long disances you need to take the baby's out every couple hours to stretch.

Take care Xx

not a rule as such its just not recommended that a baby is sitting in a car seat for hours and hours everyday or lying on their backs all day everyday its to do with their spine not being curved all the time leading to back problems, my health visitor keeps telling me put him on his front he needs tummy time, they weren;t so strict with the "rules" on car seats when i had my 1st 2 and they are fine xx
