"Scan and drinking water. replies a.s.a.p please!!"
Posted by summerlee1 7 March  at  11:11

Hi, I have my 1st scan tomorrow. I'll be almost 13 weeks. So excited, as i dont feel pregnant at all, so will be good to know there's a baby really in there!! but also very worried...only natural i guess!
Anyway, my midwife hasn't actually said anything to me about drinking water, but i've heard it can give a clearer scan picture. Any idea how much i need to drink?!
Thanks in advance x

"How did it go?"

Hey Summerlee,

How did it go then? Mine's next Friday and so far I have dreamt that the scan finds there's nothing at all in there - and dreamt there's a puppy in there!! hehe. Overactive mind, I think.

Hope it all went well! x
"Mine said to go on a full bladder"
Posted by bathers 7 March  at  17:19

Hi There,

my letter said to go with a full bladder so i drank tons of water until i was desperate for a wee. When i got in there i was litrally bursting and she said my bladder was empty......yeah right. Anyway first she said she would do an internal scan but then she pressed a bit harder and there my little baby was waving at me. Anyway even tho i was desperate when i went in i didn't even think about that once i saw baby.

I hope everything goes well for you.

They tell you to drink water as it pushes your baby up, so it makes it easier to see the baby clearer. Its the happiest day of you life to see your baby. Im now 24 weeeks and when you get to your 24 week scan they will tell you to drink water before that scan too. I drank until I felt like I needed to wee. Good luck and enjoy seeing your baby.

All the best Christine & Billy bump
"1-2 pints of water, not fizzy."

Hi - my letter tells me to drink 1-2 pints of water an hour before the scan. This will make sure that the ultrasound works properly and you will be able to see more. Make sure you do it! Am surprised your letter doesn't tell you to do this.
How much have they said that your scans will cost? Mine are £10 each. K.x
"It depends!!"

I had mine scan and they requested that i had an empty bladder before i could have a scan, but my friend at another had to drink 2 pints of water. It should say on your appointment letter. Hope this helps and good luck for tomorrow xx

Hi girls, thanks for your replies.
Letter doesnt mention water at all, so maybe i should ring and ask?! No mention of any payment for scan either, just that photos are £2 each! x

2 pints is about right... just make sure you dont go before you have your scan, it does provide a better picture if ur bladder is full, but some scans are different. Just be warned, the sonogragpher will press hard on ur bladder, dont wet yourself heehee... Good luck Darling for 2moro Congrats xxxxxxxxxxxx

Well mine were free, i live in surrey and didnt have to pay for the 4 photos i had of my baby. It is bad that some areas charge so much to have a picture of such a happy occasion! x s x

"1 pint of water!!"

Hello girls,
Im 17 weeks and 1 day.. this is my 4th child. I had a scan when i was 11 weeks pregnant and i didnt drink enough water, they knew this without me saying anything because the picture wasnt very clear. So lesson to be learnt is make sure you have a pint of water 1 hour before your scan and things will be so much clearer!!
