| Thread started by: | "1st ultrasound - question" Posted by buddy275 23 September at 10:46
Hi, I am 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Went to my doctor today. I didnt have to take another pregnancy test since she thought the 4 positive pregnancy tests I took at home were conclusive enough. My first ultrasound is scheduled for November sometime.
Does everyone get their 1st ultrasound around that far into pregnancy? And did your doctor confirm your pregnancy with a blood test or is it normal that they just believe the tests you have taken at home? Also, I occasionaly feel something like a stitch - feels like a pulled muscle - in my groin area on the right and sometimes a bit higher up on the belly on the right. Other than that I don't have any pregnancy signs except bigger boobs. Did anyone else not feel pregnant at this stage?
I know so many Qs, but it is my first pregnancy......
Thank you for listening, Katy

welcome to the forum
I went to the doctor when I was about 5 weeks and they didnt perform a blood test either - I too had quite a few positive home pregnancy tests - apparently you cannot get a false positive, let alone 4 !!!!
I had my first ( dating ) scan at around 13 weeks, it is typically performed between 12 and 14 weeks so the dates they have given you sound right.
I didnt have any pregnancy symptoms at all ( except period like pain ) until I was about 8 weeks and then morning/afternoon and night sickness hit with a vengance. Some ladies dont get any symptoms, everyone is different.
The pain you are describing may be stretching pains, your uterus has to expand quite a bit to home baby and the ligaments begin to stretch pretty early.
If you are worried, mention it to your GP or MW so that they can put your mind at rest.
Wishing u a happy and healthy 9 months.

Hey Kelly
Firstly congrats on your pregnancy! I'm expecting my first too and it is all scary stuff. Don't be afraid to ask any questions on here as everyone is so friendly and helpful
My Doctor said their tests are just the same as the shop ones so if we have a positive home test they take our word for it.
Unfortunately you have to wait a lil while for your first scan. You have two. One at 12 wks then another at 20wks where they can tell you the sex of baby. Early ones can be arranged but only if there is concern for anything.
I wouldn't worry about your twinges. This is prob just you stretching and adjusting to the pregnancy. You'll probably have these a few times in the early months so don't worry.
I didn't really have any symptoms until 8/9 wks when the sickness started. All I get now are achy/itch boobs where I'm guessing its from the growth.
I hope this helps and enjoy the ride! Feel free to IM if you want to

Firstly congratulations on the pregnancy, and welcome to the forums.
you should be offered the first scan when you are around 12 weeks pregnant, my brain isnt working at the mo so i cant work out exactly how far gone you will be at the first scan, but if it is around 12 weeks then this is normal.
None of my Dr's have ever confirmed my pregnancies, they always took my word for it, not sure if this differs with other surgeries or not.
the stitch feeling is perfectly normal as long as there is no bleeding, it is more than likely your ligamnets stretching and is known as "round ligament pain" this is where the ligaments around your uterus are stretching to accomodate your growing baby.
some women dont get many symptoms and some gets tons everyone is different so dont panic, there have been many ladies on here saying they dont have symptoms then a few weeks later they all kick in, mine dont normally kick in until im about 8 weeks but like i said everyone is different and you might not get any at all.
feel free to ask as many questions as you like hun, it is what we are all here for, we might not always have the answers but we will always try and find an answer to any questions.
take care and enjoy the pregnancy hun huge hugs Leitia & 15+5 week bump number 5 Xx
