Hey I was 12+4wks before I heard littlin. I heard it at the hospital when they did a scan for me as I had had a bleed...so I knew what to listen out for on my doppler back home. Before that I had been listening on my doppler from about 8wks..and the heartbeat I thought was babs turned out to be mine..dooohhh Why dont you get one of them dopplers off ebay..think mine was £20 or thereabouts...great for reassuring you that babs is fine! Also babs heartbeat goes like the clappers about 4times the speed of ours...just so you dont make the same mistake as me!

Movement - I was about 18wks before I felt babs giving me the odd flutter...then it was wee knocks/thumps...now its proper kicks and tum tightens when babs is turning round in it...eewwww...strange feeling!lol

7 weeks. I went to the WCC and the lady said how fast the heartbeat was and we got to hear it. So whoever says you can't hear the heartbeat until 10 weeks is wrong.

Hello,
My midwife informed me that they don't usually try for the fetal heartbeat untill 18 weeks, as before then it may be too early to detect anything and this causes anxiety for expectant parents....But, I had an appointment with my GP at 16 weeks as I had concerns around my pregnancy and I couldn't seem to get hold of my midwife. So to put my mind at rest she tried to detect the heartbeat and she picked it up straight away!
I am now 17 weeks and have been feeling very faint twitches around 2 inches above the pelvic bone, and these occur too often just to be trapped wind!!!
All pregnancies are different, I felt my daughter moving from about 15 weeks?? I hope this helps a little. xxx

I was able to hear it the first time I went to my doctor. I was at 8 weeks. Sometimes the baby rolls and moves and its hard to find it at times. Just be patient. You will soon hear those little fast thumps. You do know at 16 weeks they are able to find the sex of the baby. I found out at 18 weeks but they ar eable to tell at 16. Thats the earliest. Good luck.

HI i am afaird i have not got all the answers but i had a scan last week and 4 days later saw a midwife and she tried to hear a heartbeat and could not and told me the same thing!
I am 16 weeks and i still have not felt the baby move yet and sometimes if it is your pregnancy it is harder to realise it is a movement then it would be this is my 2nd pregnancy and i have not felt anything but they say that u should not feel baby move untill 18 weeks even though some people realise it at 16 weeks so i am sure it is ok!
I have had quite a few scans due to problems in the past and my baby gets into some real funny postions where they cant even get a good picture and thats what my midwife said that baby is in akward postion and hard to dectect heartbeat and baby is still very small at this stage so that makes it hard on its own i am sure if u had anything to worry about the midwife would of said but if u do phone the midwife and put across your concerns thats what there for.
Hope that sort of helps!
good luck with your pregnancy i am sure it will be fine!

I think theres one or two scaremongering messages here, and one or two exactly what should be ok.
If you saw the heartbeat on the scan hun, then things are perfectly ok, as long as you havent bled/bad pains etc.
Im now just over 15 weeks, and heard mine yesterday. It is IMPOSSIBLE to hear a babies heartbeat at 9 weeks , it will be the mom to be`s, The baby is minute and impossible to pick up, even with sophisticated equipment. All moms to be will hear, is theyre own heartbeat and theyre bowels.
If the baby is your first hun, the chances are you wont feel it move for about 3 weeks or more, subsequent babies tend to make themselves felt slightly earlier.
I hope this has put your mind at rest ,and yes it is hard when you get so many ppl telling you not to worry and so much conflicting advice.
I very nearly trained to be a midwife, altho I dont profess to know everything, some of the advice on this website is downright dangerous and so wrong.

Thankyou for the reassurance.
This is my 2nd baby, my 1st was 11 years ago....yikes!! Im waiting for my monitior to come through the post any day now so i can try to listen for the heartbeat myself. Im 17 weeks today. I have had no bad pain and no bleeding and in the last day or two i've noticed a pale brown line from my belly button down so im pretty sure everythings ok.
I'll let you know how i get on with the monitor.
Thanks again for helping put my mind at rest.
Think you should have trained to be a midwife reckon you'd have made a good one x

I beg to differ that you cannot hear a fetus heart beat at 91/2 weeks, i heard mine at 91/2 weeks with a fetal heart monitor the beats were at 167bpm. at that point. If that was my own heartbeat then I think I would of had a problem. I am now 15weeks pregnant and the heart beats are between 147 to 155 bpm...

I also suffered a missed miscarriage which I had no pain or bleeding to suggest something was wrong, until I went for an antenatal just over 13weeks to find she spent ages looking and couldn't find a heart beat. which resulted in a scan at 14weeks which showed the baby died at 12weeks and 3days. I then went another 2weeks before my bag of waters broke and I lost the fetus. which doctors and nurses told me the fetus will shrink as quick as it grows.but the fetus hadn't shrunk or anything.. so i am afraid not every pregnancy or miscarriage turns out to be like a text book scenrio.

i wasn't trying to scare no-one I was giving facts about my experience. sorry if it has affended anyone, but to actually read it was fabricated or it's IMPOSSIBLE because a text book might tell you it's YOU CAN'T,just proves your inexperience Joymarie.

You did see the baby's heart beating during the scan right?

The Doctor couldn't find my baby's heartbeats during my 12th week appt. So she brought the ultrasound machine & I got to see his/her heart beating...

I had another appt yesterday (16 weeks), she found the heartbeat pretty quickly...I think it depends on the baby's position...So stay positive

Hi, thankyou all for your replies.
Yes i did see the babys heart beating at my scan the previous week, which is why im not overly worried but it does still play on my mind a little. Im 15 weeks today.
Your probably right about the position of the baby. I havent had any pain or bleeding so im trying not to worry too much and am trying to stay positive! x

Hi,

I do not want to worry you but the midwifes etc should be able to hear a heartbeat from 12weeks. I have been listening to mine this time since 9 1/2weeks on a fetal heart monitor I purchased, as I had a missed miscarriage last sept and I went for a check up at nearly 14weeks and they couldn;t hear the heart beat and said the same thing that it might be too early, but she got me another scan anyway cause I was concerned, knowing all my other pregnancy's they heard the heart beat round 12/13 weeks.. when I finally got my scan I was just over 14weeks and they couldn't find a heart beat and told me the baby had died at 12weeks and 3days. i was gutted especially as the midwife had advised I was the right fundus height for 14weeks at antenatal, so seemed my womb still got bigger even though the baby had died.

i would ring back at the midwife and get her to check again especially being 15weeks pregnant. sorry if tmi.

Hi im nearly 20 weeks pregnant and had my first midwife appointment at 12 weeks and managed to hear the heart beat but it took ages to find! heard it again and 15 weeks. I first started feeling the baby move at 18 weeks so you have a few weeks to go yet. Dont worry - if all looked ok on scan you have nothing to worry about. Hope all goes ok.

Thanks x
