I was just wondering if it is possible for some women to be far along in their pregnancy and still get a negative result on their at home test? I've heard of some finding out they're pregnant after beeing 4 months along. Sometimes longer. Has this happened to anyone here? I feel pregnant but my tests allways come out negative. How many should I go through to finaly be convinced? Should I listen to my body or the tests. I could only schedule a Dr's apointment a month from now. I can't wait that long. I've never felt like this before. I think I'm going mad!

Hi. I am a midwife who has come across women who get very far on in pregnancy believing they are not pregnant, because they keep getting negative results. After the baby reaches 16 weeks gestation is develops its own placenta, which nourishes it in place of the Hcg (which is the hormone a home pregnancy test picks up on). So if you were further than 16 weeks when you took your first test it is quite possible you missed the period where Hcg was in high levels in your urine, and that now there is no Hcg, and so negative tests. However, if it was unlikely you had got to 16 weeks when you took your first test, then it could just be that you are not. Definately don't leave it a month though, as if you are this advanced in pregnancy you don't want to waste anymore time and you need to access antenatal care as soon as you can. if you are worried you are in advanced pregnancy your doctor has to see you and perform a scan or a blood test. It's probably worth feeling a bit silly for if you feel sure things aren't right. Good luck!
