Hi careyrunner!

When I found out I was execting I called my Drs surgery to arrange an appointment. They told me as pregnancy tests were so accurate now I didn't have to see my GP and arranged my pre-booking with my midwife! I found it rather odd to be honest! the midwife took my med history, bloods and booked me in for my scan!

Congrats on the pregnancy and all the best!

Hey,

My first doctor's appointment was to do a urine check to get proper confermation of the pregnancy thenthey usally make an appointment for you to meet the midwife which is usally 8-12weeks

They just ask about your family history and ythe farthers medical history. Then they take blood and urine again and arrange your first scan.

I went to the doctors last week. Told him I had just found out I was pregnant didn't need to have blood or urine test to confirm or anything. Took my blood pressure then asked about last period to see how far gone I was. Booked me in with the midwife and said I'd get a letter as to when first scan would be.
Looks like every doctors is different by the sounds of things.
Good luck xx

"What to expect!"

I suppose every doctor is different but usually blood work (to confirm pregnancy, test for any STDs, test RH factor, and immunity to rubella i think).

chance to ask questions, discussion over approximate due date, discussion of when ultrasounds will be done. Doctor asks about alcohol use, smoking, checks to be sure youre on folic acid.

And discuss who you want to deliver your baby midwife, OBG, family doctor etc.

Well thats what happens in Canada at least.

Good luck!
