Hi, Congratulations to you! Im 24 weeks pregnant now and had my first midwife appointment at 12 weeks. I know what you mean when u say it feels like such a long time - all my appointments have felt like that, even now! The first appointment is usually about one hour long because the midwife will go through all your history including your health, your partners health and both your families. She will prob ask you your weight so make a point of weighing yourself the day before you go - oh and also your height so if u dont know then find out. Then there is the horrible bit - having blood taken! Well its horrible if you dont like needles but some people are ok! You might have to do a urine sample so try not to go to the loo before you go. Then there is the best bit of all... hopefully depending on the position of your baby you should be able to hear its heart beat but if you cant dont panic! Not everyone can hear it at this stage. Anyway - enough of me going on - sorry if boring u!
Good luck and enjoy every minute of it. x x

Hi,
I'm not sure where you're from but I'm from the UK and here the 1st appointment is known as the "booking in appointment". This usually takes place at around 10-12 weeks and is mostly based on paperwork.......they need to know tons of stuff and my appointment took 45 minutes. With my current pregnancy, the midwife saw me at 7 weeks, I'm not sure why because that is quite early for such an appointment and because of that, I wasnt examined at all. When I was pregnant with DD in 1998, the midwife saw me at 11 weeks and she let me hear the heartbeat which was fantastic and re-assuring, she also had a feel of my belly to measure my fundus height. You may be asked to give a urine sample!! Good Luck!
