Ovarian cysts
Hi, I'm 25 and i have just had my results from an ultrasound which showed that i have cysts on both my ovaries, liquid filled cysts, the biggest one about 12mm I'm really worried and do not know much about them, i'm waiting for an appointment to see a gynecologist, but until then i was wondering if anyone could put my mind at rest whilst i'm waiting to see him and let me know if this is a common problem and if it will have any effect on my fertility?
Thanks

Cysts
Hi there I hope your feeling alright and Iam sure everything will be fine. I was taken to hospital 6 years ago with a ruptured ovarian cyst & required an operation & was told that my ovaries were 'covered' in little cysts. I was warned this may affect fertility. A year later I fell pregnant without even trying & now I have two healthy young girls. I still have the pain from my cysts sometimes although its clear Im pretty fertile. I hope this eases your mind a little. Good luck with everything in the future. x

Hi dear
I actually haven't experienced an ovarian cyst but would just want to comfort you and let you know that I have you in my prayers. Yes ovarian cysts can affect a woman's fertility but your age puts you at an advantage because as soon as you are under a gynaecologist, you will get the appropriate treatment.
Good luck hun

Hey
in may 2007 i had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary, it was 40cm by 40cm and they drained 6 litres of fluid out of it, they obviously had to take my ovary out, and left me with a huge scar down my stomach, found out the cyst was named a chocolate cyst, i didnt get any information on it, and was happy with that, i needed to move on, the doctor i went to cos i was in agony told me i was 39 weeks pregnant, and of course was devestated to find out i wasnt as i had 4 miscarriages and the timing from the last one would of worked out. i am now 23 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, and everything is going fine, im getting extra support from the hospital, but have been told that its not something that i actually need but it makes me feel better so please dont worry, the doctors will help you out the only reason mine had gotten so big is cos the doctor i went too was just ignorant and put it down to my weight
if you need any more info just send me a message
good luck with everything
xx nat xx

Pcos
There are some websites that I really like that can help you learn about PCOS. At this point you haven't been diagnosed but it would be good for yourself to learn a little bit: www.pcos.insulitelabs.com and www.pcosupport.org.
Hope you find these useful.

Hi
Hello
Im not sure that PCOS and ovarian cysts are the same thing. I had cysts the size of apples on both my ovaries, they were also water based cysts, I have a 10week old baby and fell pregnant first month of trying. I did start trying earlier then I wanted in case we did have problems so that age wouldnt add as an extra problem, but turned out I was fine, so I don't see that you should have problems caused by the cysts.
I think PCOS is different as it can cause fertility problems, I had a period every month although painful and had no symptoms of pcos like hair or inbalanced hormones. The cysts also went due to the pregnancy.
hope this helps x

Re: ovarian cysts
Hi there I hope everything is going ok for you now. I found out I had PCOS when I was 16 years old. There was the biggest amount of testing done from blood tests to scans and even exploritry surgery. It was very had to deal with at that age. From there I was put on a heavy dose of the pill and synthetic progesterone which did nothing but make me totally hormonal and crazy, but no period. A few years later I started seeing another doctor and was basically paying her a heap of money every month for her to tell me she had no idea what was going on as she suspected the PCOS was caused by something else, but unsure of what it was. She put me on synthetic progesterone as well, and again nothing. Well that's all in the past now and I have stopped seeing doctors about it because it gets tiring lining their pockets and no help. My periods started on their own about 2 1/2 years ago and I'm in a happy and stable marriage. Don't think I'm ovulating since there hasn't been a pregnancy so we are looking to try fertility treatments. Anyways just thought I'd share my story with you and anyone else who reads this. Actually if you are reading this and you have been through a similar situation please comment. Would like to know am not the only one who has felt like a human guinea pig over the last 10 years. Thanks heaps for listening

Re: ovarian cysts
hi there, i hope you have by now been to see your gyn.if not,i just wanted to say that most are just basically fluid sacs, and nothing more, like me they were happy thats all it was, but they still analysed it,so dont be afraid if they tell you they are doing this, and, think the worst.it is just routine.im sure that your fertility shouldnt be affected, but not positive.sorry if im not reassuring you much here, but i dont want to give you any false info.my cyst was removed, and my fallopian tubes were fine, please try and relax, and focus on other things.as hard as it is,i know.best of luck with everything.

Ovarian cyst?
hi, i'm just new to the forum, and wondering if anyone can help? i've had an ovarian cyst before,on my right side. the doctors were reluctant to remove it, but i was in agony, also i was in early stages of pregnancy. after my daughters birth, they assessed me again, and decided to remove it.i had the ca125 tests and such, and i was at low risk. that was 2yrs ago now,and i feel i'm having same pain all over again. (i was steralised at the time also)my symptoms are feeling of fullness in abdomen, tiredness, diarrhea, pain only on right side, like a constant gnawing pain. i feel as though i have pain every day, and it is really getting me down. i also feel my doctors are brushing me off, as though i am neurotic, please help. thank you

Pcos
I also have Poly cystic ovaries, its amazingly common. I had some challeges but I am currently 37 weeks pregnant. So ask lots of questions and the gynae's and good luck!
|
| |
Please
please tell me how you mnaged to get pregnant thanks
|

I listened to my gynae and did what he told me!
The things he advised me on were: - progesterone to get my periods started - Clomid to get me ovulating again, with monthly blood tests to confirm if I was ovulating yet - a laparoscopy to check tubes, see if any endometriosis etc., all was fine but removed a small benign lump (a fibroid?) from my uterus which he said might have prevented successful implantation - sperm test for my husband (was fine)
It took a couple of years but baby Mila was born on 2 March 2007 so it worked!
Good luck, ask lots of questions of your doctor, they are the experts and they know your personal situation best.

Hey
im 18 and i have just been dignoised with polycistic ovarian syndrome a few weeks ago, i am only 18. however many women get little cysts on there ovaries which do not effect your fertilty. some go away in time, if you didn't have like tests n things you wouldnt no u had them. however some can get better n then they would perform key hole surgery n remove them. gd luck what the gynecologist says, however try not to worry.

Development of ovarian cysts
Hi Tarnya,
Developing ovarian cysts at this age is a very common thing among young women. In fact, here's a fact
The chances of developing ovarian tumor in the lifetime of a woman is 1 in 71, according to the American Cancer Society. About 15,500 women in the United States die from Ovarian Cancer each year, and about 21,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Source: http://www.researchovariancystscancer .com/
Overview of development of Ovarian Cysts
Ovarian Cysts are small fluid-filled sacs that develop in a woman's ovaries. Most Ovarian Cysts are non-Cancerous and have no prior symptoms. However, common problems detected are irregular bleeding, rupturing of blood and pain. No treatments are usually prescribed for Ovarian Cysts because they tend to go away on their own. For other Ovarian cysts, surgery may be required to clear the fluid sacs. Cysts can develop in various parts of the body but specifically Ovarian Cysts are termed for the setting of their development; the Ovaries. The amount of fluid in the Cyst depends on the type of Cyst that is formed, however the fluids range from thin and watery to thick and solid-like. Some cysts are thick from the exterior with watery liquid within them. Size of Ovarian cysts can range from the size of a pea to as large as a melon.
