hi there, i am new to this so hello!
was wondering if anyone has had success with vasectomy reversal?
i got married on the 1st february and my husband who is 33 already had 2children from a previous relationship.
however, i am only 21 and obviously want children of my own.
i stopped taking the pill about two weeks ago and things seem to be going ok with me.
however, i have found out from the nurse today theat our local nhs does not do rversals and we will have to go private.
i just want to know if we are going to be wasting our time?
i keep getting quite upset about it and paranoid that if we do have a baby he wont love it because ha already has two!
help, im just feeling so confused and depressed.
thankyou x

Hi there
I know exactly what youre going through,my husband and I have been married for 2 years now (he has 2 kids from his previous relationship) we decided to have his vasectomy reversed in March 2008 and Im still waiting its nearly been 4 months and nothing yet but i was told that it can take up to a year so patience is the virtue. Your hubby will def love your baby that you guys will make together dont worry. My hubby is so excited he has already chosen names for the baby and im not even pregnant yet. Just take it easy and love each other during this time.

hi lyddybop.i got married for 2nd time last july my husband and i have children from previous relationships, but wanted one of our own so december last year my husband went to bupa and we paid private (£1700) we are still waiting to find out if it is going to work. the doctor told us we had 75% chance as he had the vasectomy within 8 years,i dont think your wasting your time if you have the funds to pay for it go for it ive got a friend who's husband had a vasectomy 20 years ago had a reversal 2 years ago and his wife fell pregnant straight away. and im sure your husband would love this baby just the same as as his other 2 i wish you tons of luck xx

Just worked out the total cost was about £2025 - will be well worth the money if it works - although we cant eat for a while!

hey im 20 and im the product of a reversal. my dad was 45 when he had it done and i was concieved just a couple of months later. that was years ago medically speaking and the proceedure is alot simpler and less evasive now. if you want children and you know your hubby is def fertile because of his other children then you have every reason to go ahead with it. i was my mums miracle girl.... she had had 4 boys from her first marriage and was exstatic with a lil girl. just get your own fertility checked out just incase and find a very repuitable clinic that can provide you with good references. youll be sorted soon enough!! tc xxxx kayla

Hi, I read your story and thought I was reading about myself, I am 31 and have just celebrated my 1st wedding anniversary, my husband has 2 kids from his previous marriage and we have been looking in to a reversal. We were refered by our GP to through the NHS in June last year, they advised as it was considered as cosmetic surgery they could not do it, the only way they would do it is if it was for medical reasons. We have pleaded our case as my husband got the vasectomy as his previous wife had severe post natal depression. After several meetings with the board they have still come back and said no however we are getting it done in an NHS hospital and only costing £1200 which includes the consultancy fee.
I thought my husband would not love a child we had together as much as his other 2 but he is already looking at prams and baby clothes so reckon I have just been a bit paranoid.
We should find out this week when he is going in - they said it should be done by the end of April.
It can sometimes feel like a slow process however it will all be worth it in the end.
All the best.x

Hi, i was just looking for success rates when i came across this link and your story. I am also 21 and my fiance is 33 he a daughter from a previous relationship and had the snip 3 years ago. Has your husband had the reversal? We are having it done in May and it will cost is £2000.
I wouldnt worry about your husband not loving the child you have together, he wouldnt be going through this if he didnt want a baby with you.
We got an appointment to see a doctor on the nhs to have a chat about the reversal, i recommend you do that, he can talk you through everything.
I hope this helps x

I am in exactly the same situation! My husband had 2 kids with his ex and had vasectomy done 14 years ago! He has "vasectomy reversal" op 28th Apr'08 at the Nuffield Hospital which will cost us £2,300.00 + £150.00 for the consultation.
Now, I am 29 (almost 30) and really freaking out that the op might not be successful. Is there anyone out there who had it done after such long time? Pls let me know what are the chances for me to get pregnant?

"We had it done after a long time"
Posted by jojo2847 2 July  at  14:57

like you i'm freaking out too. have you had any samples analysed yet as this is the first step that we had to take. i also found (my partner's was done at the nuffield) that your just left to your own devises which can lead to so much frustration and can make you so low after the operation. we're just hoping that it is going to work as my partners first result came back positive for sperm! fingers crossed for you x

and it was successful.

theres some great information here which was very useful to me. There does not seem to be much information around on the subject but as i say this is very useful.

Hi Hope you don't mind me asking by how long since your partner had his vasectomy and reversal to you getting pregnan? I know the longer it is the slimmer the chance of it working.

"We've been there!"

Hi there

I'm 26 and my partner is 40 he has kids from a previous marriage and decided to have vasectomy. Anyway the marriage ended we met and are now planning our future together. We went to seek advise from our GP about fertility as i have PCOS to top it all off, we were advised the reversal was our best option. Fertility with the vasectomy is very costly and has a low chance of success so he went for it back in october 06. We have been trying since then and i have had a pregnancy (which resulted in a miscarriage, upsettingly) but i still fell pregnant. We were told it can take up to a year to work but the proof was in the pudding that it depends on the indivitual!!! I say go for it. It cost us about £2,500 with all the consultation fees, plus it will be so much nicer trying naturally and you can try for as long as you wish.

Good luck, hun x
