42 and just starting clomid - anyone else over 40 and does clomid work?

I am 42 years old and after 2 years of not getting pregnant - being told I had one tube blocked and was not ovulating I managed to get pregnant in January 2007 but sadly miscarried in February 2007 at 5 weeks. I was devastated but at least I had proved I could get pregnant.
I finally decided to go private and saw a consultant today who has prescribed Clomid. She doesn't think the tube is definitely blocked and as I've already managed to get pregnant once thinks my chances are better on Clomid than on IVF.
Has anyone else tried Clomid and had success - especially at my age?

Trying at 48

Hi, I turn 49 on Monday and only been trying to conceive for a few mths. I am eager to try Clomid and have a specialist appt next mth. Do you think I am too old to be trying Clomid?? I hope the specialst will advise me to take it or something similar.

I just want to know if I've left it go too long I am truly in love for the first time in my life, my partner and I both have a child from previous relationships but the children don't live with us. We just want to have a child together.

I just need someone to talk to.

Shelly

42 and just started clomid - prayers welcome for conception

I have two children from my first marriage. Both children are grown and absolutely wonderful. I never thought I'd marry again, but my husband is 35 and just retired from the Army. He has no children and wants nothing more than to have a baby of our own. So after a year with no resulting pregnancy, I'm trying Clomid and really hope it works. I had a abdominal scan when I had my kidney stones about a year ago and the physician said it looks like one of my ovaries is starting to shrivel up - how can that be?? Forty-two is very YOUNG and a perfect age to have a child. I hope the clomid will boost my egg release so my husband and I can bring new life into this world to share our love. Has anyone else had any luck on Clomid after 40?

Hi i am sherri--43 from california

I had a reversal of my tubal in November 2007 and conceived in August 2008 (had a miscarriage in eptember at 6 weeks).
My husband was so worried I would die he was unwilling to try again but now we are. Last month I took 100mg CLomid and HCG tirgger but no success.
This month I had several follicles after 150 of Clomid and the largest was about 22mm when I got my HCG trigger on Thursday. SO now I am in the 2 week wait---though I feel in my heart GOD has told me I am going to test with a BFP.
I wonder about twins--though would not mind at all.
Is there anyone out there dong what I am doing at my age and what is your success rate??
Thanks Sherri

Clomid at 43!!!!!

Hi Sherri, i saw your post and felt i had to say hi, iv had two miscarriages the last one was 1st April 2009 at 13weeks, myself and my husband were obviously devastated, however, after some seriously intense debating and yet another talk with our consultant, we have decided to go ahead with our second cycle of clomid, (we tried in Dec, but it didnt work) also i havent had a period since then although im NOT menopausal, so im starting tomorrow with a pill to make me bleed then straight in with the clomid....I know this is a really long shot but I HAVE to give this one last try, so here i go, by the way I was 43 in January, id love to hear from anyone in a similar situation, thanks Sandie...

Baby Dust and Love to all!

I just started clomid today

hi iv just started taking clomid today i have 3 yr old that i conceived with clomid so here i go again it took 3 cycles last time fingers crossed it doesnt take that long this time

Me too!

Hi Kara, Its nearly August, hope your clomid has given success.
I am on 2nd month and no joy, at 43. But i cant give up hope. I get through the weepy days and then when the monthly cycle comes i get all poitive again. I dont know when i can give up. Just read someone on clomid at 45, thinking of trying IVF next. The need for that baby is not going away.
Good to chat, let me know how it was for you,

Dont give up!

Dont give up! I have 4 children, all healthy. 3 born after the dreaded "cutoff" of 35, 2 after age 40! I understand how you feel. The last 2 needed a little assistance with 2 cycles of Gonal F and lupron plus IUI, but both cycles were rapidly successful considering how many younger women have been trying for years. I wish you the best, will pray for you now . Just remember that many things are possible, there are many women out there just like you who are on this journey. I was in medical school when I saw a 46 year old deliver a healthy beautiful baby, as well as a 45 year old. There is hope for you.

I am 43 now, not scared to try again. My infertility doctor was wonderful, and she had her last baby at age 43, who is also healthy . I feel that there may be one more baby for us, just a feeling, and I would like to try Clomid

I'm on it too!

I just started Clomid today. I am 45 and have had two previous miscarriages. I'm hoping to have one more child and feel that I am running out of time. My daughter is going to be 5 next month. I am a bit apprehensive about it. How are you doing? I just hope that this works

Over 40 and on clomid

I'm 41 and trying again on clomid. After several years of trying, I was given clomid at 36. I took it once but wasn't well and left it for a couple of months. Then a friend suggested Forsight preconception, (there is a website) and we did the hair sample and got vitmins and we both tried to improove on our lifestyles. I did a dye test and I was told I have a blocked tube. I left it a couple of months and then took clomid again and got pregnant. My little girl is now nearly 4. My partner didn't want another so I decided not to push it. He never wanted any children although he is crazy about our little girl and would not change things back. She was originally a twin although I lost her twin at about 7 or 8 weeks in an early scan that was given to me as I took clomid.
Recently I've had a bad time and Ive managed to persuade my partner to change his mind. Ive taken clomid again this month and now Im just waiting the dreaded two weeks.
I hope it works out for us both. Good luck, hopeful 16

Clomid a success for me!

Hi, just letting you know that I had two complete blocked tubes(polycystic ovary disease) and had major surgery and told i only had a 30% chance of ever becoming pregnant! I was prescribed clomid and pregnant 3mths later! I was told ivf probably would not help me and this was my best chance! I had a most agressive form of p.s.o.d and i was only 23 when told i would probably never conceive. At 25 i gave birth to a big bouncing baby girl! I then tried 12wks(am i mad!) after the birth of my daughter but it took about 9-10mths to conceive my second child "a bouncing boy", how lucky am i? now i am soon hitting 39, children 13 and 11 and life is good! my moto for you is don't give up as i know plenty of women your age having children and probably due to maturity and settlement being wonderful, loving great parent's. beat of luck to you and if you want to ask anything in specific or chat let me know. cheers amanda. perth wa

New message from ex wa girl

Hi just thought i'd say hello. Lived in Perth for a few years, had great time. Now back in UK and at 43 on clomid. 2 months gone and no joy!. Looking for some posititve thoughts

Did the clomid work???

I will be 41 next month and have started clomid, does it give any nasty side effects? Most importantly did it work???

42 and yet to try clomid

Hi I, like you other ladies feel like I'm reading about myself. I have just turned 42. I have had the blood tests to test my FSH levels and they are low side of normal, but no-where near menopause yet.My GP says that I am not ovulating. The next step is to visit a ferility clinic. My husband has not had his sperm count done yet so I think we'll look there first. I have two girls 10 & 12 from my first marriage. My husband is only 30 with no children. I have been off the pill for 10 months. I had ovulation pain for the first 6 months off the pill and now nothing. I hope that the clomid is all we will need, good luck to everyone.

Like reading about myself!

had to write after reading your post and the ones below as they struck a chord

had fibroid removed a few years back - major op.
got pregnant in november aged 41 after just 2 months of trying but a scan in january showed no heartbeat so had to have a d and c at 10 weeks

like you i saw a private consultant as since then things hadn't been feeling quite right. scans showed i wasn't ovulating so now i have a prescription for clomid to start in a couple of weeks. i am also 42 and although many of my friends have used it (all successfully) they were a bit younger so I am not sure quite how i feel about it yet

would love to know how you are getting on and hear others' experiences. i know it's a small step when it comes to fertility treatment but it still feels quite a big one for starters

41, almost 42 - clomid

I am 41 and I have never had children. From 35 on I started feeling the urge that I wanted children in my life but the time (or the guy) was never right. Today I have someone in my life I really care for but our main problems are my obsession with becoming a mother before it is too late (if it is not too late now ) So, I started going to a fertility clinic and was put on Clomid. I just took my last two pills last night, and now the wait is on. I am so neurotic and have moode swings and I am not sure if it's the stress of it all or the drug itself that's causing these symptoms. Do these side effects stay with you the entire cycle or do they go away after you take the last pills? Since taking the pill I have not been able to sleep well, waking up every 30 minutes and having the worse dreams. I am hoping for twins since this is it for me due to my age (but one would be the biggest blessing too). Please say a prayer for me so that I get pregnant.

I am curious to know how you are doing. Keep me posted. My prayers are with you
