Just wondering if anyone out there has been/is going through this at the mo, and if they've got any adivce on what might happen next?
I came off the pill Sep 06 and had normal (albeit v late) period in Nov 06 - then nothing. Went to the docs in Jan 07 and he did some bloods which all came back ok. Went back again in Apr 07 (still no period) so he gave me 5 days of progesterone to kick start a period. Although this did happen it was v light and really only spotting for a few days.
Am due to go back to the doctor next month, which will be nearly 9 months or ttc, but just wondered what he might try next? Have been reading other discussions and wonder when he'll try clomid? Would this be too early? Have been using ovulation strips and never had a +ve... any advice gladly accepted!
xx

checked you thyroid and prolactin? i know that they checked both of those with me and even though they both came back normal its something that can affect periods alot. and if that doesnt come back normal its just a matter of taking a pill to balance it again. other than that if they think you are not ovulating and have been on bc you might want to see a specialist...i know that alot of women can get pregnant right away when gettin off the pill when others it can take up to a yr and half for you periods to go normal again...hope everything works out...im about to start the hard road...i have a appt with a reproductive endocrenologist on the 12th so we'll see what happens....they wanna get my periods back on track with bc but i cant be put on anything iwth estrongen because of my migraines...hopefully i get that positive and double lines soon...

Hiya,
Thanks for your reply. Yeah, the Dr did test my thyroid (and I'm pretty sure he did prolactin as well) and didn't seem to be any problems. Will just wait and see what the Dr says next week... fingers crossed.
Good luck.

Insist that he refer you to a sub fertility clinic- the home tests are very accurate and as long as you are sure that you know your cycle ( and so have not missed your ovulation) you now need action- don't wait. I waited at least 6 months longer than I should and regret it now.
If you can then try the Zita West Clinic- they have a useful website.
Good Luck

The doctor has now referred me to the gyne department of the local hospital, so hopefully things will get sorted soon. Do you know what I might expect at my first visit? I've just had the bloods repeated and will know the results at the end of the week (all were okay last time)... will they do a scan of my ovaries and think about Clomid or is that all a long way in advance. Just like to know what to expect...
Thanks.

Hi I have been trying for 18 months and my doctor has now refered me to a fertility clinic. My gp was not very helpful and has not done any blood tests or given me any advice on what things i can do to help in the meantime. I have been trying to find out what things to expect, my mum is a nurse so i askes her, she said the usual blood and sperm tests for me and my partner, probably scans of womb and stuff, she is trying to find out more for me so i will try and let you know!! When you had the blood tests at your doctors what were they for??

Hi Jayjay67,
The bloods I had done were FSH, Prolactin, glucose, thyroid, full blood count and LH (I think that was it).
Any info you can get from your Mum would be gladly accepted!
When is your clinic appointment?
Good Luck!

I dont know when my appointment is yet, still waiting for the letter. Doctor did not know how long it would take or how long the waiting list is, to be honest since we have been trying i have been to my gp 3 times for advice and not really had any!!! She didnt advise on anything like temp charting or diet just told me to be patient as i am only 25. Do you have any idea of any diet that are good while trying??

Hiya,
I'm 25 too, so seems like we're in a very similar situation - where do you live? I must admit although my doctor did seem fairly sympathetic he didn't offer any advice on diet or charting (etc.) either. He also wasn't that bothered when I mentioned using ovualtion strips either, so not sure if he didn't think they'd be any use - or just wasn't interested!
I have been talking folic acid since ttc, but have just started taking Angus Castus, zinc and omega 3 fish oils as well, as these all have potential to help regulate the menstrual cycle and hormones. Not sure they're doing much and I guess I may have to stop (especially the Agnus Castus) when treatment at the clinic starts, but just feels good to be trying something.

I'm from warwickshire, where are you from? I'm taking folic acid too, trying to be as healthy as possible!! I haven't tried the ovulation strips yet but i am gonna start if it does not happen this month. Up until now i have been really down about it, i really thought it would happen straight away, didnt really imagine it would take this long, now i have been refered my partner and i have decided to take things easy and sort of forget about it until the appointment comes through, but hopefully it will happen before then.

Hi Jayjay,
I'm from Essex... so not a mmillion miles away.
I'm not sure if I can really recommend the ovulation strips at the mo. Perhaps I've lost a little faith in them because I've never had a poitive - but that probably more due to not actually ovulating. I think you're better off charting your temp and CM and then perhaps doing a ov strip just to confirm ovulation if you can predict it with CM. (Hope that makes sense).
Were you on the pill before ttc? I think that's where I went wrong. Had I know it would take this long to get back in rhythm (assuming that's 'all that's wrong') I would have come off ages ago! Doctor put 'amenorrhea' on my referal which is a little depressing! What chance have I of getting pregnant when I'm not even menstruating!!
Has been really good to chat (send me a 'private' message if you'd like to keep in touch).
