Unable to get fertility treatment free

My partner and I have been trying for a child for 3 years now with no success. My partner already has a 14 year old child, but I have never had a baby. We went to a hospital to a fertility clinic, and was told we couldn't have any free fertility treatment on the NHS due to us already having one child between us, and because we lived in the wrong postcoded area.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences? If so I would like to know we are not alone. Also please sign this petition at the following web site

Possibly a solution????

If your hospital has the postcode lottery and rules around existing children from previous relationship have you considered egg sharing as an alternative? Most clinics have this option, basically you donate half your eggs to a woman who does not produce her own (but is financially stable) and in return she pays for your treatment. It suits some people, others aren't keen, but its well worth exploring as it would keep your costs to a minimum. )

Hi

that is just cruel.
it should not make any difference that your partner has a child.
what area do you live in?
my partner has 2 children and we have been refered for tsts.
i would hate to think that if it came to it and we needed treatment to help us conceive it would not be offered to us free on the nhs.

Fertility

Hi

We live in Deal,Kent Where do you live?
Thanks for your support and understanding. I did write a letter to our local M.P
and he tried but he couldn't do anything, so I am trying the route of the petition instead.

Hi...

Hi there. On thursday we had been FINALLY refered for IUI, which we will start in septebmer (hopefully). It took a year to NHS doctors to do all necessary tests and so on. Everything takes so long and waitind is killing us! Every month is draging on and it is becoming increasingly harder.
Reading your experience, I suddenly feel very lucky. How in earth you survive, I will never know.
It is dicriminating and discusting that you are not able to get fertility treatment! I wish that the peron/people who came up with this rediculous rule or dicission, to go through what we have to go.
You have got my support and sympathy. Stay focussed and strong in your fight. Lots of energy and I hope outcome will be what you wish for. Best of luck...

Too young!!

It is so nice to be able to talk to couples in the same situation, we went to the doctors last Oct and were told that we needed ICSI as my husbands vestomony reversal didnt work. We thought we would be able to get funding i am 25 and he is 46 with no children, how wrong were we, we were told that i was too young and had to be between 30-39, we have gone to our local MP and doctor who are togther putting an appeal together for us, and they have some hope we might get it. But it is so unfair and whats worse is the people that make these dicisions dont know what you have to go through!!

Too young!!!

Hi there.

That is terrible, I can't believe the stupid rules and regulations they put on it.
They tell you in the medical profession that it is better to try for a baby in between the years of 20 and 30 as you should be more fertile then, so it would be more sensible to try now than wait, and you would think that that would understand that! Good luck with going to your local MP, keep me posted!

Free go

Hi if you are 39 and under you are entitled to one free go at ivf,its hard to find out criteria,im in essex and we was tuned down because hubby has 3 boys from ex who live with ex,but we told out doc this when we 1st went to him,he said this wasent a problem, anyway we had test done ect and looked good, then after 6 months(and notes being lost)we were told because hubby has kids from previouse realshionship and i was now over 39 we were not entitled,so went to docs who said "crap"basilcy,he said they not allowed to use the kids as an excuse and because i was 39 at time of applying i was eligitable,he told us to appeal which we did and they said as long as kids dont live with us we could have one free attempt....so we now waiting for an appointment at st barts...
