Pcos

Hi there,

It sounds like you could have polycystic ovary syndrome but I am not a doctor, so you should go and see your local GP.
I was diagnosed with PCOS in dec 2005 and I am now reciving treatment to help me and my husband have children. PCOS does not automatically mean you are infertile, but it does mean you may have trouble concieving in the future. I know you are only 17 and very scared, but you really need to go get it sorted out. Basically if they think you have PCOS then they will sedn you for bloods tests and a scan (which will be internal or external you may get a choice on this) they will be able to see if there are any cysts either on the ovary or in it. I have the internal scan as they tend to see better this way rather than external. I will say that it is not nice having people prodding and poking you but it will be worth it when u get a diagnosis.

Most pcos suffers who are not looking to have children yet are put onto the pill as a course of treatment as this gives you back the hormone's you are missing. I do hope this all helps you, you can also if it help visit this website www.verity-pcos.org.uk this is totally devoted to women suffering with pcos, it have forums and this is the place to meet new people and talk about your problems.

Regards
Lisa

Age

I think at your age some people's periods still haven't settled down into a proper rhythm yet, butif you're worried then go to your GP.
