Hiya.

Im 19 years old and have the implanon implant, ive only had this nearly 2 years, (I got the 3 year one) And only recently been told that as i am quite overweight the implant will not last as long as it would if i was of average weight, my doctor never told me any of this and its clear to anyone im overweight! Since having the implant put in my periods havent been the same anyway, but for the past 2 months they have been very little, a couple of spots of bleeding one day, nothing the next. They havent been on time and very unpredictable, ive also noticed what looks to be a funny colour and smelling discharge (Not all the time only now and then). And been experianceing period pain like cramps in my stomach, which i only usually get whilst on my period. My body doesnt feel mine (If that makes sense!!) And recently ive been very emotional, bursting into tears for no reason, And been so moody, but i cant control it! (I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but it isnt like me) And i seem to have lost all interest in sex, Am i just being paranoid as ive been told it wont last aslong or could i be pregnant, i would appreciate anyones help on this, as its causing me alot of stress and worry, im too scared to go to the doctors "just in case" And i have no one i can talk to about this. Is there anyone thats in the same situation as me? Or even got pregnant whilst having this implant in? Or can anyone just offer me some advice.

Thank you

hiya im having kinda in the same situation as you. i've had the 3 year implanon for just over 3 months now and it was all ok the first months but now i've been experiancing some things that have made me worry that i could possibly be pregnant. i relly dont feel like my body is mine lately. i've been having nausea but not vommiting, frequently going toilet for a wee but not really for number 2, i was on my period for about 2 weeks now i keep finding light drops of blood and viginal discharge, i keep having headaches and back and shoulder pain and my feel tired all the time, i also keep having cramps and abdominal pain, bloating of my stomach. the mood swings i can't control and i now easliy can cry but for silly things, i duno im young and confused. Im quite slinder but i have a big appetite but lately my food intake is ridiculous, one minute im craving food next im not, i dont know if that has anything to do with it but i've set up an appointment with my doctor soon but anyone with some suggestions of whats happening to me please help me too.

Hi

I have had period issues since I first had the implanon put in over 2 and a half years ago. I am now at the stage where i'll have a period for a week and then off for a week, then on for a week, then off for a week and so on. If I were you, i wud bite the bullet and go to the docs, just so you know and put your mind at rest.

The irregular, heavy happened pretty much from the word go. So I made the decision to have it removed. I am booked in to get it out on Thurs 3rd July and I can't wait, although i have to say, from some of the stories I hve read I think I have been pretty lucky, as I have gained no weight to speak of since being on it, and no acne, and if anything it stopped my headaches.

I went to my docs today about other forms of contaceptive and she thought that the depo injection would be best for me as I am unable to take the oral contraceptive pill. I had the injection this morning and just hope that i don't gain any weight with it, as i have heard some horror stories. But on the plus side I was told to expect wieght gain on the Implanon and did not experience any so fingers crossed. Has anyone got any advice about the depo injection??

Thanks

Hi.i am 26,i had the implanon implant done January of this year. For years i have being wonderding what contraceptive to start of with cause this was my fist time, wanted to get the best one that suited me.
But to me the side effects are the same, which i'm so scared of these side effects.
Before i got this implant putted in i read alittle about it,said okay i will give it a chance, but now i'm so miserable.
About 3 wks after the inplant i started bleeding, and until this day(now in June)i'm still bleeding, sometimes it will stop for 'bout 3 days then back on again(not heavey but annoying)my sex drive has gone, extra tired, putting on so much weight,i cry for nothing even if i'm watching a cartoon so wierd.
Some where in my head i dont think it's working, every time i have sex i worry, cause i really dont want another baby now,i have a 2 year old daughter which i adore. But she is a hand full for now.
My other half says i should take it out, cause when we are having sex i bleed heavely.
I am so scared to take a pregancy test cause if it says positive i really dont know what i would do!!Thanks for openig my eyes, cause i never really thought that all these things i am going through is because of this implanon.

here is what i think take a test see what it says. i had implanon for about 7 weeks and i started feeling the same way you do, i took 2 tests and they both had faint lines in the positve box. which of course means im pregnant. going to the doc to have it confirmed in 2 days. does anyone know if implanon can harm the baby
"Could i be pregnant?"
Posted by chico324 10 May at 10:41

I don't know if it's just the hormones but.. I've have my implant for over a year now and it's worked fine, I had all the trouble for the first few months with weight, emotions and bleeding. But it's protected me from pregnancy and I've not have any periods since.

I recently knocked my implant quite badly, I didn't think anything of it at the time. But then I began to get very snappy and angry, emotional, I have been bleeding also. I had intercourse shortly after knocking it without thinking really, and I was thinking that if the implant wasn't working in the areas of bleeding and hormones, then how else is it not working! I have had sickness feelings regarding food and drink I normally love and have felt odd for the past week. I'm doubting that I am pregnant as it's not been long at all since the intercourse, but everything about my body feels so different. has anyone else had this experience?

Hi Babes,

Don't panic too much. I am coming towards the end of my 3 years on it, and my periods are doing exactly the same. I only finished mine a week ago and I am back on again.

Get yourself a pregnancy test and stop panicing...

hi, i don't have an answer for you but i split up with my boyfriend two months ago and he split up with me because my mood had changed completely, i was crying all the time and i couldn't concentrate on anything at all. i've had alot of the symptoms you've described and i'm terrified. my implanon isn't old, it's actually relatively new but i was hoping if you'd had an answer from someone that you could help me out because i think you'll understand what im going through
thanks xx
"Beware - a 3yr implanon may run out months early!!"
Posted by butterfly31044 5 March at 18:33

I have been on the implanon since Nov 05 after the doc advised me to change from the depo injection. All was well to start with, i hardly had any periods with depo and the change over didn't effect it. i had no period until a yr n half ago when it all changed. my cycle lasted an average of 48 days and the bleed lasting upto 10 days. however recently my period has lasted nearly 3 weeks.

i have visited my gp who told me that the implanon is probably running out - 8 months earlier than it should!

i am visiting the health clinic tomorrow for further advice and to see whether it may need changing.

If i had left it there is a good chance i would have become pregnant. i had not realised that the implanon could run out early and i am only slightly overweight.

"Got it aswell"
Posted by cazjoyce 25 March at 23:58

Like the rest of you, i have got the same sypmtoms, i get dizziness, hot flushes, stomach cramps, nausea, more tired than i usually am, mood swings my husband cant stand, this weekend for me and him have been the worst ever i didnt want to make love to him i couldnt stand him being around he thought he had done something wrong but he hadnt it was my hormones playing around.
I have had the implant for about 15 months now its my first time having the implant, i had it put in when my first child (a baby girl) was 2 weeks old, i bled for the majority of the year periods would last for 3 weeks then id be off for a week and back on again, i went to my doctors he gave me a pill to balance my cycle and it work my periods final became regular then they stopped so i read up on the implant and it says it can stop your periods so i wasnt worried but then i got all the other symptons and also my nipples have changed colour this is what has given me second thoughts.
A lot of you have said you cant get pregnant and that youve all had the same syptoms but a few have stated that you have become pregnant of it, to be honest i dont want to take a test because im quite scared of what it might say i had the implant for a reason to stop me getting pregnant i wasnt having anymore more until my daughter was around the age of 5 so that i could focus on her because im scared if another comes along she will get neglected i just couldnt let that happen.
i think i will take the test to ease my mind and if it is negative go and see my GP to sort the problem, if this is what the implant is gonna be like then im seriously consiering having it removed because it is putting my relationship on the line.

thanks for listening

"Could i be pregnant"
Posted by bobjac 28 March at 11:15

hi i was wondering if you could help me? Ive had the implant in for 10months, at the begining my periods were irregular but that soon settled and my periods started to become regular, maybe a couple of days late, however this month my period is just over 3 weeks late, i have been having dizzy spells and havent been able to loose any weight even though i exercise and watch what i eat.i hevent felt myself at all this month. I have done 2 pregnacy test and they have both come back as negative i am hoping i am not pregnant as i already have 3 children my last daughter was premature born at 28weeks. If i was to get pregnant again there is a chance that this could happen again, i was told by my GP that the implant was just as good as being sterlized, im now having second thoughts, do you think there could be a chance that i could be pregnant? all the signs seem to be there or is it all just in my head
"Implants..."
Posted by kinigit 11 February at 22:58

I've recently been to see a doctor about the implant and I'm having the implant inserted on wednesday. I am overweight and my doctor assured me that the implant will last 3 years. when using the implant you should visit your doctor every six months (you should do this in general anyway for health check-ups.) and if ANYTHING goes wrong you should see your doctor immediately.
The implant is 100% effective if inserted correctly, the only way to be sure that you are not pregnant though, is to see your doctor.
Many people experience 'spotting' (irregular spotting of blood) when on the implant, this means the hormone released through the implant is not strong enough and it needs to be topped up with a pill or something (see your doctor for this.)
Your periods, as far as i'm aware, are supposed to be irregular or stop altogether - so your short spots of blood are likely to be just spotting, rather than periods.

I'm afraid that the smelling discharge does not sound good at all and i'm not 100% sure if this is or is not supposed to happen, but i've not heard anything about it being an affect of the implant. It could be an STI/STD. It could be nothing. It doesn't sound like pregnancy though. Your emotions could just be due to the imbalance in your hormones.

You must visit your doctor, i really do doubt it's pregnancy, but you shouldn't be feeling this way so just step into your GP's office and have a word with them, it's what they're there for and at the end of the day it's your health risk.

I hope everything works out for you.

Posted by kirstyrabbit 7 February at 23:41

i know exactly how you feel i am just the same on the implant, very irregular periods, very moody and no interest in sex at all. it was very annoying and in the end i did a pregnancy test and i wasnt! i think it may just be the hormones floating around being a nuisance, but my advice is if you are that worried then take a test, it can only be a possibility of two answers and it only takes 2 minutes.
