Got an implanon implant could i be pregnant? help please!!!??

Hiya.

Im 19 years old and have the implanon implant, ive only had this nearly 2 years, (I got the 3 year one) And only recently been told that as i am quite overweight the implant will not last as long as it would if i was of average weight, my doctor never told me any of this and its clear to anyone im overweight! Since having the implant put in my periods havent been the same anyway, but for the past 2 months they have been very little, a couple of spots of bleeding one day, nothing the next. They havent been on time and very unpredictable, ive also noticed what looks to be a funny colour and smelling discharge (Not all the time only now and then). And been experianceing period pain like cramps in my stomach, which i only usually get whilst on my period. My body doesnt feel mine (If that makes sense!!) And recently ive been very emotional, bursting into tears for no reason, And been so moody, but i cant control it! (I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but it isnt like me) And i seem to have lost all interest in sex, Am i just being paranoid as ive been told it wont last aslong or could i be pregnant, i would appreciate anyones help on this, as its causing me alot of stress and worry, im too scared to go to the doctors "just in case" And i have no one i can talk to about this. Is there anyone thats in the same situation as me? Or even got pregnant whilst having this implant in? Or can anyone just offer me some advice.

Thank you

Implant

hi there, first i would like to say that i had the implant on for the full 3 years and readind all the other replies to you nothing similar happen to me. My period was completly gone for the 3 years and even after i've remove it i went on a pill that has exactly the same effect and my period still don't show up. Also while on the implant i lost almost 3 1/2 stones, but i was going to the gym very regularly so maybe the two together helped. When i first had the implant there was very little info and only a few clinics would do it in London and doctors have to be qualified for the procedure, and I heard all sorts of people telling me how bad that would be for my health, how i could get periods non stop, how my system might not be compatible with the composition of the implant etc, but none of it happen. i was very happy with the implant on and did not notice any mood swings or becoming emotional, although i have to say that i lost a bit of the sex interest. i've removed the implant at the end of the 3 years and been on the pill ever since, this pill is called cerazette and it's free from your GP. I've stopped the pill about 2 years ago, got pregnant and am now back on it, and will be making an appointment next week for a new implant.
I think that you should consult your doctor if your having all this syntoms as your body might not be compatible with the implant composition, and might harm you. also you could ask to get the cerazette pill, it's easier if you want to stop at any time.
Wish all goes well with you and please consult your gp and tell them of your syntoms

Just got the implant

hiya am 18 and just recentantly got the implant in, iv noticted that iv been eating alot more and have been havng cramps and different mood swings, i dont know what it is, before i got the implant i was really scared because there was a chance i was pregnant but when i went down to get the implant a urine sample was yaking but i dont know if they really done a teat as they didint tell me, they just gave me the implant, and now am wondering if theres still a chance i could be pregnant. help!!!!!!

Implanon and pregnancy

hi my name is Claire and I got the implanon in when I was 16 and fell pregnant on it a months later. The only difference I found was that my period stopped but I was assured that is a possible side effect from the implanon. I ignored my instincts for a few months until I found I started gaining weight without changing my eaing habbits and decided I would take a pregnancy test. When it came back possitive I went to the doctors as I wondered if it would be inaccurate due to the implanon but they said it doesn't effect the results. Personally I would get it checked out as I couldn't make my mind up and by the time I went to the doctors I was 20 weeks pregnant. If you don't want to go to the doctors I would at least do a test as the last thing you want is to find out that you are pregnant when you are really close to your due date. It will also put your mind to rest whichever way the results go.

good luck

Hope this helps!

I am also currently on the implant, what you are describing are some of the negative symptoms that the implant can cause. So you may not be pregnant, cud just be the hormones in the implant are causing you bad symptoms, either way i think you should go to your doctor just to rule out pregnancy or an infection (or get an at home pregnancy test maybe), and if you are not pregnant maybe you should look into another form of contraception as it doesn't sound like the implant is agreeing with you, doctors can be forgetful sometimes so make sure you ask if your weight may effect how long the contraception lasts (usually they give out a leaflet, but ask if they don't) . The implant does cause me some of these symptoms too, its so annoying im looking into the IUS instead now, as it apparently doesn't cause mood swings.

Good luck!

Same boat !!

i have had the implant since 4th december 08 and im now in the same boat got my 1st and 2nd period as usual but not had one since only spotting and have all the signs of being pregnant other than a possitive test as im too scared to do one lol and i hate going to the doctors as they usualy like to stick needles in me( n i dont do needles lol) but i think its bout time i got checked now thats been bout 4 weeks this has been going on

So confused

hi im on my second implant due to have it out next feb ive had all the problems listed above by everyone months with bad periods months with nothing, the morning sickness feeling, the swollen belly i do believe that its is the implant working just wish there wasnt so many side effects. At the moment though im trying to decide weather to have another child as my little boy is now 5 and needs some little brothers or sisters. Now i cannot workout if its because of the way my body is its making me more broody has anyone else thought this?? Also because ive had one for such a long time my fertility after removal is in question is there anyone who has had one for as long or longer and successfully fallen pregnant since??

Don't worry!

Hiya,

I know exactly what you are talking about, i'm two years into my second 3yr implant, also overweight but i have never been advised that the protection wont last as long. During my first year i had terrible headaches, heavy periods and didn' t feel myself however this lasted about six months or so. Everything settled down and i didn't have a real period at all and as with you i had spotting sometimes it was/is red and sometimes it's brown and clotty (yucky i know!) I still get the spotting and at the moment iv'e had the discharge daily for two months now and i still get cramps when it should be period time. I have a nonexistent sex drive much to my husbands frustration (im 33) maybe once a month at most! Don't drive youreself mad with this, if you really are worried get a home test, if negative breathe easy and go to the doctor and explain your symptoms remember no-one knows your body like you and not everything that goes awry is due to being overweight. I'm obviously not a doctor but i don't think your'e pregnant, ive never had a scare with the implant and i'll let you into a secret im 17stone! I know that my sex drive is low partly because i don't feel sexy anymore and i get very emotional about that and i know that SOME of the weight gain is due to the implant but not all.
I hope this helps you , you are not alone and please go to the doc and phone the helpline on the back of the card i did and they were quite helpfull.

Good luck

Heya

oh my god girl I have the exact same thing as you...
Its not right...
The difference with me is I am trying to get pregnent with it in, and I wana get it removed but I am scared incase I wont be able to get pregnant or nothing!!
Just go to the doctor and dont be scared...I went to the doctor a week ago because I had pain and blood and discharge and they gave me an ultrasound and there was nothing there...
so try it because the problem will only get worse
I have to go again because mine is getting more bad...
seriously go
and good luck I hope you get the answer you are looking for!!
reply please..

hi i have the implanon implant and about roughly the same amount of time, i am experiencing the very same problems! i went to the dr and she told me that no contraception is 100% and i should do a pregnancy test i did and it was negative but she said its just the way that the implant effects different people different ways i like you am over weight, you should do a pregnancy test just to rule it out then go to your gp they see more embarrasing topics than this every day x

Pregnant?????

Hi everyone, Im 26 years old & have reached & gone past my renewal date for my implanon - it should have been changed at the beginning of january, ive had regular periods for the last 6 months but this months has not appeared. My last period started on 14th february & was normal. My partner & i have been using condoms since christmas but we have had a few near misses with broken ones, ive taken the MAP in february before my period. we had another accident just after my period had finished but i didnt get the MAP - i just didnt want to, to be honest i would quite like another child

I feel bloated & tired all the time, i also feel very down & my partner insists im very sensative at the moment too. Ive taken 4 pregnancy test in the last 2 weeks but they have all been negative, i cant get my implant taken out anytime soon as i didnt get it put in in this district & where i have moved to i need to make a hospital appointment as none of the clinics do it - i dont have any holidays left at work so its just going to have to stay in there for the time being.

Is it possible that im pregnant & when do you think i should try another test??? i would go to the doctors but again i cant take any time off work

I will be grateful for anyones opinion. Thankyou

Replay to mikaylalouise

hi i had my implanon i for 3 years and got it taken out 2nd march 09 im so glad its out. i put on loads of weight, was very emotional tired and moody., had no sex drive and just felt yuk!! i thought i was pregnant a few months ago but i was told as the implanon gets older depending on weight and whatever medication your on could cancel it out and that you could get pregnancy like symptoms. my periods completely stopped, not one for 3 years.
if you really worried go see the doctor im sure you'll be ok, the implanon is 99.99% safe for getting pregnant, so its very unlikely you are.; hope you feel better soon x

Pregnant thats what implanon does to you...please read..

Hi Dor again, ok I dont know if this will help any of you but I do hope so.
Ive had the implanon implanted three times and know a bit about it so here goes..

The job of the rod is to convince your body it is pregnant. This prevents your ovaries releasing the egg to then become fertalised. It also thickens the mucus to prevent any sperm reaching any released egg. (not all of our bodies doo what they are ment to do they lol)
So often you wont get a period or you may get regular cramping more disscharge gereral PREGNANCY FEELINGS and SYMTTPOMS especially if thisis your first rod but this (99% of the time) is just the implanon working and diong what its there to do. It is telling your body you are pregnant and aiding your body to preven any further pregnancies.
Please ask your local clinic and make sure you DO GET A TEST if you really feel you are pregnant, dont leave it to chance get it checked out as the rod has to be removed if you are found to be expecting a baby.,
I hope this is helpful to you in some way..
Its an amazing little thing this implanon but not without its drawbacks..
you do get used to it as does your body adn each rod is different from the last so one may be a terrible experience for you and the next may be heaven..
Just because you have one bad one please dont think they are all the same..
GOOD LUCK LADIES... this is a brilliant site and I hope it helps some of you.
Dor.x

Wow

You are describing almost exactly what I am feeling and I, too, am on the implanon. This April will be my second year on it and yes lately I have been feeling the same way you are. I feel a nauseous through out the day and a little dizzy at times...my period has never been regular and with the implanon it sort of went away but these last couple of weeks I've been getting this weird spotting that comes and goes but momentarily and OMG yes I have absolutely no interest in sex right now whatsoever! The good thing is I have felt this way before and paranoid I've taken pregnancy tests only to have them all come back negative. So maybe it's just some of those unfortunate side effects of this type of birth control...another good thing is these side effects are only temporary and occur every once in a while.

Find out monday

i have the inplanted fit for about 6months now and my baby is 8months so am having a few side effect of this implant well i hope i am
