Like the rest of you, i have got the same sypmtoms, i get dizziness, hot flushes, stomach cramps, nausea, more tired than i usually am, mood swings my husband cant stand, this weekend for me and him have been the worst ever i didnt want to make love to him i couldnt stand him being around he thought he had done something wrong but he hadnt it was my hormones playing around. I have had the implant for about 15 months now its my first time having the implant, i had it put in when my first child (a baby girl) was 2 weeks old, i bled for the majority of the year periods would last for 3 weeks then id be off for a week and back on again, i went to my doctors he gave me a pill to balance my cycle and it work my periods final became regular then they stopped so i read up on the implant and it says it can stop your periods so i wasnt worried but then i got all the other symptons and also my nipples have changed colour this is what has given me second thoughts. A lot of you have said you cant get pregnant and that youve all had the same syptoms but a few have stated that you have become pregnant of it, to be honest i dont want to take a test because im quite scared of what it might say i had the implant for a reason to stop me getting pregnant i wasnt having anymore more until my daughter was around the age of 5 so that i could focus on her because im scared if another comes along she will get neglected i just couldnt let that happen. i think i will take the test to ease my mind and if it is negative go and see my GP to sort the problem, if this is what the implant is gonna be like then im seriously consiering having it removed because it is putting my relationship on the line.
thanks for listening

Whole thread for the following message:
| Thread started by: | "Got an implanon implant could i be pregnant? help please!!!??" Posted by mikaylalouise 7 February at 15:02
Hiya.
Im 19 years old and have the implanon implant, ive only had this nearly 2 years, (I got the 3 year one) And only recently been told that as i am quite overweight the implant will not last as long as it would if i was of average weight, my doctor never told me any of this and its clear to anyone im overweight! Since having the implant put in my periods havent been the same anyway, but for the past 2 months they have been very little, a couple of spots of bleeding one day, nothing the next. They havent been on time and very unpredictable, ive also noticed what looks to be a funny colour and smelling discharge (Not all the time only now and then). And been experianceing period pain like cramps in my stomach, which i only usually get whilst on my period. My body doesnt feel mine (If that makes sense!!) And recently ive been very emotional, bursting into tears for no reason, And been so moody, but i cant control it! (I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but it isnt like me) And i seem to have lost all interest in sex, Am i just being paranoid as ive been told it wont last aslong or could i be pregnant, i would appreciate anyones help on this, as its causing me alot of stress and worry, im too scared to go to the doctors "just in case" And i have no one i can talk to about this. Is there anyone thats in the same situation as me? Or even got pregnant whilst having this implant in? Or can anyone just offer me some advice.
Thank you

Hi,
I have had the implanon since November 2003 (I am on my second one now) and after the first month, I bled a little and then I didn't have another period until February this year (2008) at which time I would bleed week on week off. I went to the doctor as I was completely freaked out, especially after not having a period for so long and she put me on the pill to sort things out.
After my 3 month trial on the pill and implanon combined, I did bleed in between periods and then they stopped completely again. his was 2 / 3 months ago now but lately, my boobs have been very tender, I have been going to the toilet a lot, feeling nauseaus (without being physically ill), tired without any reason to be and my tummy is poking out a bit more than it normally would. I don;t think the tummy thing is a sign but as I have been feeling so very unlike myself for a while now, I was thinking I should head to the doctors to find out if I could be pregnant.
I did actually take a pregnancy test about a month ago that was negative but it's not always accurate and since I have experienced cramping and spotting, I don't think it'll hurt to go and see the doctor. I'd rather find out now that I am pregnant then when it's too late!!!
I don't know if this is of any use but I would say that you should go and see a doctor, at least it'll put your mind at rest

hey,
im 18 years old and i got my implanon in just this june ive had it in for 5 months now. i have about all the same symptoms as you except i dont get any periods at all i just spot sometimes for 3 weeks sometimes for 1. i never got menstrual feeling cramps until a few days ago. i felt really bad cramps for a few minutes and would notice that i would bleed plenty when i got them. i have also been experiencing very bad lower back aches. i have also been experiencing a discharge with an odd color and a funny smell to it too. but like you, its not every day. and also ive lost all interest in sex too and im a newly wed! (that must be bad) and i have experienced alot of weight gain. it really depresses me that ive gained almost 30 pounds. ive tooken like 3 pregnancy test but they all come out negative. i had no idea that so many ppl had the same symptoms as me. i also want to know if anyone has gotten pregnant on this implant. i would like a baby and everything but i just want to enjoy my marriage and i also think im too young to start a family. i dont know what to do either.

hi I have had Implanon for 2 years 2 months. It was fine for the first 18 months or so. Benefits were not having to remember a pill, can be spontanious, no periods, no change in mood. But then i started to note weight gain, i have put on about 9 pound in 2 years which doesnt seem much but is frustrating when you eat and drink the same and exercise just as much. More annoying recently is the bleeding, its 2-3 weeks out of the month and it just defeats the point of having it in because it kind of gets in the way of sex where you are kind of on your period 2-3 weeks of the month - mood killer or what!?
I am in 2 minds whether to get it removed though!! I dont want kids anytime soon but i am useless at remembering to take pills, even when ill i forget my antibiotics etc. I am worried that the pill will have the same weight related side effects.
I have heard of people having the implant replaced after 2 years and the symptoms have stopped... maybe i will try this any let you know.

Hello, I'm Zoe & I am 18 years old. I got the implant 8th March 2007, it was fine for the first 6 months or so but since april this year I have constantly been feeling sick, my boobs have grown and are quite sore. Like you I also have head & back aches. My stomach pains are alot worse now then before I was advised to get the implant because I had been on the injection for 3 years, I wish I stayed on the injection, at least then I was comfortable with my body. I used to be 8 n a half stone but since getting the implant I have put on alot of weight, which is currently 9st 10lbs. I hate it, I have been to see my GP so many times since april I have lost count, so many tests so little answers. I worry about being pregnant but I do a test and it's always negative (good in a way) but I still don't have answers, I thought it was just me having these symptoms, I am relieved to know i'm not the only one, After reading everyones comments i'm thinking about getting it taken out, but I don't want to get pregnant so early in my life. If anyone else has any suggestions please let my know, i would really appreciate any help, you can email me at zltiley@hotmail.com.

Hiya! I havnt really had any nausea apart from a week ago when i was sick...but i dont know if that was just one of those things! My abdomen feels slightly more prominent and i keep gettin slight tingles of pain there & have done for the past week or two (on and off)! Ill take a test on friday if i dont come on....im just worried if i am that having the implanon in would do some serious damage to the baby, i couldnt face tht!sorry im blabbin...i just wanted to know if that all sounded familiar to pregnant women or am i being stupid! Also krissysmomma...did the doc say what made the implanon give you a neg result?? x

Looking up info on how it works in obese women, I saw that it said its not to be put in women under 18. It may not work for you well, ask your GP'\

| | "Had the implanon removed" Posted by cheyni 31 July at 15:51
I had the Implanon rod in for 6 years,2 different rods for 3 years each. I have 3 children, all girls, my youngest is 6 and did not want anymore until recently when i started feeling broody. I suffered with most of the symptoms everyone else had but found it was the best contraceptive for me as i cant take the pill, put on so much weight with the injection and dont get me started on the coil.... I spoke to my doctor about 3 months ago and told him the rod was due out on 6th June but id like to try for another baby within the next 6 months or so and he told me the rod can actually be left in for up to 5 years!?! and that i was better off leaving it in until we were ready to start trying...... The date came when it was due out the for the few weeks beforehand and couple of weeks after i experienced so much pregnancy symptoms, pains and weight gain (in a matter of weeks) that i went to another doctor who took it out for me. Had such a bad experience having it taken out, it had embedded itself in my muscle and took almost an hour to find it and i ended up having numerous stitches after!!! Since i had it taken out 3 weeks ago, im still feeling the same, still feeling sick, sore boobs, and nausea all the time. I took a pregnancy test yesterday but it was negative so i dont know if its just the hormones leaving my body or if i am pregnant but its too soon to show up.... Am due my period in the next couple weeks i think (they were very irregular while on implanon so not sure of dates) but im hoping i am pregnant. Aiming for a boy this time

hiya im having kinda in the same situation as you. i've had the 3 year implanon for just over 3 months now and it was all ok the first months but now i've been experiancing some things that have made me worry that i could possibly be pregnant. i relly dont feel like my body is mine lately. i've been having nausea but not vommiting, frequently going toilet for a wee but not really for number 2, i was on my period for about 2 weeks now i keep finding light drops of blood and viginal discharge, i keep having headaches and back and shoulder pain and my feel tired all the time, i also keep having cramps and abdominal pain, bloating of my stomach. the mood swings i can't control and i now easliy can cry but for silly things, i duno im young and confused. Im quite slinder but i have a big appetite but lately my food intake is ridiculous, one minute im craving food next im not, i dont know if that has anything to do with it but i've set up an appointment with my doctor soon but anyone with some suggestions of whats happening to me please help me too.

| | "Reply and my experiences of implanon" Posted by janeyb210210 21 June at 01:42
Hi
I have had period issues since I first had the implanon put in over 2 and a half years ago. I am now at the stage where i'll have a period for a week and then off for a week, then on for a week, then off for a week and so on. If I were you, i wud bite the bullet and go to the docs, just so you know and put your mind at rest.
The irregular, heavy happened pretty much from the word go. So I made the decision to have it removed. I am booked in to get it out on Thurs 3rd July and I can't wait, although i have to say, from some of the stories I hve read I think I have been pretty lucky, as I have gained no weight to speak of since being on it, and no acne, and if anything it stopped my headaches.
I went to my docs today about other forms of contaceptive and she thought that the depo injection would be best for me as I am unable to take the oral contraceptive pill. I had the injection this morning and just hope that i don't gain any weight with it, as i have heard some horror stories. But on the plus side I was told to expect wieght gain on the Implanon and did not experience any so fingers crossed. Has anyone got any advice about the depo injection??
Thanks
janey x
