"What are my chances of conceiving?"

I have recently been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and myself and my partner have been trying for a baby for a couple of years without success. Since being diagnosed with polycystic ovaries I can't stop thinking that maybe this has something to do with it? I know in some cases it reduces the risk of fertility. I wanted to ask the doctor but was scared of what he would say! I don't know how I would take it if there was a chance I couldn't conceive even though I've prepared myself for it deep down.
Can anyone advise me on this subject?
Thanks xx

hi

I also had polysistic cysts on my ovaries and was told by my doctor they were common in women. He also said that they dont stop you from getting prgenant, but can make it difficult by causing irregular perids, this makes it difficult for couples to know when to try for a baby. However, i personally know 3 other woman who have got polysistic cysts and have fell pregnant with no complications. In fact a friend of a friends has just had her second baby and she has polysistic cysts. Mine were causing me to have very iregular periods and they were very big, so i made the decision to have them drained by having a laposcrapy. I was in hospital just for day surgeory, went under general anaeshetic and was succesful, now i have regular cycle, every 22 days i am on. You should talk to your doctor and explain your concerns thats what they are there for, and remember, polysistic cysts are so common in women, i was told that a lot of women have them and don't even know! I only discovered i had them after having a scan.

Try not to worry about it, but try and talk to your doctor about your concerns!

hi, sorry to say it normally plays a major part. i also have have pcos and i me and hubby have been trying for 2 years. best advice is to ask doc. he/she can give you alot more details but dont worry as there are lots of options out there. there at least 4 basic options i can think of that you have to explore before it even gets serious. i dont know all your details but you should definately still be able to concieve!! i know how you feel tho when i got told i had pcos i had no idea what it is and what that meant for me and babydom future, its hard when they just hit you with stuff and expect you to just take it. im looking for a buddy tho to just rant man and talk to about this on a day to day basis. if your interested post me back and ill post you back my email addy. no pressure just a thot to see if it helps either of us.

PCOS runs on two spectrums. You have the ovaries that look polycystic but no other symtoms of the symdrome and then you can have PCOS with polycystic ovaries and the hormonal problems which puts you into the syndrome catagory. Polycystic ovaries (PCO) is very common and in most cases (from what I have read and specialist information) does not cause a problem with fertility. Majority of women dont even know they have it. With PCOS it is different. Because you have the hormonal problems (insulin resistant, abnormal LH levels, testosterone etc) this does make it difficult to concieve. Difficult but NOT impossible. I was diagnosed with PCOS in Jan 07 after 3 years of trying and 3 miscarriages. My LH levels were so high my body was literally over stimulating my eggs resulting in less than 7 periods a year and overmatured eggs.

I am now 18 weeks pregnant - all natural! I was a week away from ovarian drilling when we found out. My doctors cant explain it other than - it does happen. PCO & PCOS are not - you will not have children - disorders. If your body is struggling to do it on its own - IVF!! A few of my friends with PCOS have gone that route and they all parents now!

Good luck & Baby dust

Thanks a lot for your advice. I seem to understand things a lot more now, think I just panicked after hearing fertility may be affected, but you have all given me positivity!!
My cycle is so irregular so I wouldn't know when I was ovulating.
I think a trip back to the doctor is in order....
Thanks again girls....
