"Pcos is a concern but only if you make it xx" Posted by lewise1 20 November at 14:54
hi there just first got to say its nice for your sister to have you as support, cos its hard to go threw on your own. Pcos is fluid filled sacks that grow in and out of your ovaries, and if you have a period the egg that gets produced gets taken over by a fluid filled cyst and it just goes back into one of these cysts.I was diagnosed with pcos two years ago, when my partner and i first started trying for a baby. in the last 2 years i have put on 4 1/2 stone, i dont have periods, and i have really bad mood swings. People can have children as pcos can be reversed or helped my clomid and metophormin. Clomid makes eggs more dominant and gives you a better chance of concieving, metophormin can also help fetch back periods etc. Im 5ft4 and weigh 15st4, but i dont really worry about it because im helping myself i have joined weight watchers and do regular exersice. Slowly the weight is coming off, but its worth it cos for every pound i lose the closer i could be to concieving. Over the past 2 years i have gone through so many tests but nothing to worry about. Just think that every test you have the closer you are to concieving. If your sister dosn't have periods ask her to try AGNUS CASTUS its fantastic, you can get it from Holland and Barrett. it makes you have periods when taken properly. if i can help you any more please pm me. "Dont be scared" Posted by ellieturner 29 August at 22:04
hi, i am in a similar situation. i have pcos and we are trying for a baby. it is a horrible condition and very depressing but all that can be done is to try and come to terms with it and then be aware of what needs to be done to make the condition better. i have looked for websites myself and havent found any really good ones but all of them have information available. knowledge is power and the more your sister knows about her condition the easier it will be to overcome it. i get very depressed about everything especially the weight and excess hair, i also get broody and have ended up with three very spoilt but loveable dogs. it helps to talk to others if you can who are in the same situation. i hope i have been of help and that your sister learns to cope soon dan xxx

"There is hope" Posted by katyrowledge 6 June at 17:33
i have had irregular periods since the age of 14 and the doctor put me on the pill to try and regulate things when i was 17 my periods stopped altogether (even when on the pill) i was referred over to the Garnicologist department as my doctors thought i had PCOS. I was quite scared as i knew nothing about the condition. I was in for a shock when i got there as i was told that i was already pregnant. so they could not find out whether i have pcos. I have now got a two year old little boy. It has not just happened once i fell pregnant again in september but suffered an ectopic pregnancy, this is when i was finally diagnosed with PCOS. I have been put on metformin to try and make my periods regualar. I have not got any websites or anything the only advice i could give is live life and dont worry as it will happen when it happens. I am proof that PCOS woman can conceive (and im not skinny either)

Hello- I can relate to your sister because I am 27 and just found out that I have PCOS because I am trying to get pregnant. I stopped getting my period around 16 and was experiencing acne then I was put on birth control and it all went away so no one noticed anything was wrong until my bloodpressure skyrocked at 25. I am a runner not overweight, and not hairy, so PCOS was ruled out until I was taken off birth control and still never got a period. I was put on clomid to induce ovulation. I moved from 50 mg to 100 mg and STILL haven't ovulated. Now my Dr is sure that I have PCOS and he is starting me on glucophage along with clomid. I am frustrated, but I have heard as long as you address the problem and are willing to to keep trying people with PCOS CAN get pregnant. The important thing is to seek help from a good dr. You sister can feel free to email me. Good luck

"Diagnosed pcos at 36" Posted by marabsky 28 September at 18:17
I had no idea I was PCOS till I went off the pill to start trying for a baby with my husband - and had a year of no periods! (Ok perhaps I should have gone to the Dr before a year was up but I just kept thinking it would sort itself out...) Anyway I got diagnosed, my Dr got the periods going, finally got me ovulating, eventually did a laparoscopy and finally got pregnant.... It all took time (almost another 2 years), but thats the way it sometimes goes, I guess.
Good Luck to her! Also keep in mind that PCOS often runs in families so you may also be affected to some degree (or you may not). My sister has irregular periods (although neither of us have many other symptoms) so I suspect she is as well, so I've talked to her about it. She isn't in a position to try for a baby, but at least she will be armed with a bit more info and can have a dr take a closer look then.
Good luck to your sisters journey! May it be successful.

Sorry to hear about your sister being diagnosed with PCOS, i know this must be a bad time for her. I have got PCOS aswell, but i found out when i was 16, and at the time having a baby wasnt the most important thing in the world to me! However im 21 now, and i'm trying for a baby, but sometimes I think it'll never happen. I can't really offer you or your sister much because I dont know her exact situation, but I just want you to know that she isnt alone, and all the feelings and everything she's going through, i understand. If either of you want a chat - let me know! Ashley xx

"Hi there " Posted by dryden11 16 June at 11:48
hi melissa
just wanted to let you know that the feelings are completely natural, i was diagnosed with PCOS at 15 and told by my very understanding doctor that i would never have children so just forget about it and get on with my life!! (lovely man!)well after advice like that you do just get on with things and at the age of 15 the last thing i was thinking about was a baby although i was on birth control just to sort the periods out.
a few boyfriends later all of which i used extra protection with aswell as taking the pill i met my current partner who i knew was the one we discussed the fact that i couldnt have children which he completely understood and we settled into a life of having fun together.... well six months down the line while still taking the pill we found out i was pregnant !!! shock to say the least but a blessing all the same our little boy dryden was born healthy and happy not too many complications again i went back on the pill and again 3 months later i was pregnant again!! another little boy blake ensued and before going on birth control again i had some tests done and they found that the pill was actually kick starting my ovulation!!
so the point really is that sometimes not worrying is the best option

"Reply to u x" Posted by lisag24uk 28 April at 22:42
Hello there,
I was diagnosed with PCOS in December of 2005, and I have found a wonderful site which is devoted to women suffering with PCOS it is www.verity_pcos.org.uk, there u can ask questions, read other peoples posts on the forum and it helped me get a better understanding of what PCOS is and how I can help get pregnant.
I am now starting my first cycle of a drug called Clomid, which helps PCOS suffer's ovulate. It will be a tricky and horrible time for your sister with tests and exams, but it is worth it when you get the treatment she needs.

"Pcos and bacterial vaginosis" Posted by crystal8273 16 June at 19:20
Ive been diagnosed with PCOS for at least 3 years or more. Ive been on a strict regimen of Glucophage and Cytomel. After about 2 years of having the Dx I started to get Bacterial Vaginosis. My general practitioner sent me to an OBGYN for this and he told me that there isnt anything they can do for them but to treat them when they come. Well in my case I get it once a month if not twice. Usually they put me on Flagel and it gives me thrush then I have to take meds for that as well, its a vicious cycle and a complete annoyance. My sex life is nonexistent because of the Bacterial vaginosis and Im frustrated. What Im wondering is if anyone else has experienced this and what sorts of things has your Doctors done for you?

"Pcos " Posted by stikystuff 15 June at 07:28
Yes I a also a PCOS sufferer. Yet to get pregnant. Most doctors offer little/limited advice on the subject there is a good book which i have serch for PCOS on the amazon website and you will find it. Hope that helps. Also if you get your weight down gentaly by diet and exercise you may begin ovulating again! Also as your sister has tried for a year she can asked to be put on a drug called Clomid which helps you to ovulate and the sucess rate is good. I'm a product of it as my mother was on it for about eight months and got pregnant with me after 5 years of trying.

"This is my experience!" Posted by naualmare 8 April at 09:59
Hi! I am 26 and I'm from Spain and have read by chance your message, as I was looking for a discussions board about POCS too. I "suffer" this problem since I was 15 (my mother had it too), and fist of all tell your sister not to worry about getting pregant, I can ensure you that she can perfectly get pregnant having POCS, it only takes longer than usual, that's all!!, my mother took almost 2 years to have me, and peculiarly with my sister and brother had no problem at all, I mean it is a question of time, some women get pregnant in some months and other a bit later. Well, it is important that she ovulates, otherwise it won't be easy. I'm taking Onagra oil in order to regulate my cycles, which are not regular at all by themselves... Onagra oil is natural and you can have in pills, it is very good as well for the health of the skin and the hair. It takes some months before you feel the effects but it is worth trying it. Ah! This also stimulates the ovulation. For many years I've been taking pills like Diane35 and Yasmin and always made me feel very bad, that's why I geve up taking them last year and beguan taking Onagra, I feel much better in my skin. Next year my boyfriend and I will try to have a baby. I forgot to tell you that many many girls have POCS, more than we think, it is very common nowadays, and it is not a serious problem to get pregnant, as it would sterility... it is very sad. I hope it helps you you and your sister.
¡¡¡Besos y hasta pronto amiga!!!

"Re: pcos" Posted by wenders 6 March at 17:29
hi
it does depend on how badly effected by pcos. my friend has it and was told that she would never conceive and carried on with her life as she wasn't ready for kids anyway. as she thought she couldn't conceive she never used contraception but 3 years after getting married she found out she was pregnant conceived naturally. it is possible to have children with psos. use a search engine like ask jeeves or google to find more websites. it she's worry she could be refered for fertility tests by her GP. good luck x
