Could i be pregnant?

Hi, I am new to this on line forum but would really appreciate any responses.

I have 2 sons aged 4 and 19months. Following my second son I had the Mirena coil fitted as I didnt want to use the pill having fallen pregnant with my first son whilst on it and I experienced intermitent bleeding with the depo injection.

I have recently started to notice that I am gaining weight (approx 1/2 stone) and even when I am really careful I just can not loose any weight infact I have been gaining it.

I do not have periods at all because I am on the Mirena. With both my prievious pregnancys I have felt breast tenderness practically straight away but I havent got this. Sometimes they look larger than normal but othertimes they appear normal.

I did not experience any morning sickness with either of my sons but I have been experiencing waves of nausea recently which friends who have had morning sickness have had.

I have also started experiencing the fluttering feelings and sometimes they are quite strong.

There are now too many symptoms for me to brush under the carpet and ignore but I always thought the Coil was failsafe. I had a smear a few months ago and the nurse could feel the wires so I cant see that it will have slipped.

My husband and I would like another baby but at the moment we just dont have the space and really cant afford to move. I know I should just do a test but I am worried what the result could be so it would be good to hear if anyone has found themselves pregnant with the Mirena coil. The posts I have seen on here all involve women with the non hormone coil which I dont have. If I were to be pregnant who knows how far along I could be as have been feeling the flutterings for a while now. With both my sons I got these from 16 weeks in to my pregnancy.

If anyone has any words of advice please respond to my post.

Thanks and have a good evening.

Natalie

Hi natalie

I too have had a Mirena coil...i had it for 2 years before having it removed 2 months ago to start trying for a baby.

When i had it in i too went through a time when i thought i may be pregnant. I didnt have periods from 3 months after getting the coil fitted so that didnt change but i had weight gain and sickness so thought i was expecting. At one point i was convinced that i was and even felt 'flutters' like you. Thing is, it turned out that i wasnt atall....the flutters must have been wind and the symptoms were just the hormones from the coil which can apparently surface unexpectedly.

The Mirena is supposedly the safest out of all the coils and my doctor said he hasnt had any cases of pregnancy's with it yet..Though, alll said, there is a slight chance there so best thing is just to do a test and find out one way or another. It will put your mind at rest and means you can either start planning for the arrival or get on with things as they are.

ALl the best honey....let us know how you get on.

xx
