Finding an egg donor, fertility clinics and cmv status

Hello ladies,

Im an egg donor whos worked with numerous couples over the last few years. I also do a lot of voluntary work and campaigning for the National Gamete Donation Trust to raise awareness for the desperate need for egg donors in the UK. Ive been posting on this site, on and off, for over the last two years.

I am looking for any ladies who have needed an egg donor to have a cycle of IVF and have been lucky enough to find their own donor . But on going for tests at your fertility clinic, youve been told that you and your egg donor are incompatible to work together on an IVF cycle because one of you is CMV positive whilst the other is CMV negative.

Have any ladies out there been through this experience?

Firstly i would like to say i think your amazing to give a special gift to someone and not only once but a few times - well done.
I have POF so i need an egg donor, i have found my own donor which is very lucky for me. but im registered with Leeds ACU and they seem to have a strange regulation where they wont let CMV Positive and Negitive work together. i am neg and my donor is positive, so they have said i can not have her eggs but they will give them to someone else and leave me high and dry on a waiting list for some to match me.
i feel like they are using me for my donors eggs the donor i found off my own back!

i really dont understand why Leeds work like this but other clinics will let me work with my donor????
now im fighting for a referral to another clinic just so i can use my donors eggs.

my understanding on cmv is that. cmv is a virus if the + an- are mixed this could cause abnormalities
if your - then you have never contracted the virus if your + then you have
its very common to have contracted the virus this is how it was explaind to me am no dr but it makes sence although iv heard on sites that it can be off your own choise have your hospital not give a reason why good luck on your journey
