Hi Girls,
I was wondering if you could pease give me some advice!? After 2 years of trying for a baby i've finally been to gynocolgist who's told me that my boyfriend and I can't have kids...and we need to go through a treatment called icsi.Anyway it seems I'm gonna have to gyno quite often so should I tell my bosses about this? I'm really worried they will fire me though if I say anything! Then again I'm crap at lying so I can't make something up, and I'll have to give some excuse for having to leave sometimes!! Please help!! Thanks!!

Hi Amalya I honestly think that you should tell your boss i have been throught the same thing myself and for things like this they have to give you the time off whether they like it or not, also i found during the whole treatment i did need some time off as i didnt feel too good after some of the drugs and my bosses were brilliant if you get a doctors note then there is nothing your boss can do so i feel you should tell themas you do not want this worry on your back as well. I had icsi nearly 4 years ago and now have a healthy 3 year old cheeky little boy its amazing what they can do these days. I am now going through my second cycle with frozen embryos i was lucky to have stored from the first cycle i had them planted on monday 15th january and now must wait 2 weeks to do a pregnancy test this is the worst bit!! so please if there is anything you need to know or you need a chat please email me on psha1969@aol.com good luck i will be thinking about you you have probably started the cycle by now

I don't know where you live, but most countries have laws protecting against discrimination due to pregnancy - it doesn't mean if your boss/company are a**holes that they can't basically drive you away anyway, but at least it can be something to fall back on.
However, there is unlikely to be any protection which ensures they need to give you time off for your treatments - you will probably need to use you normal annual vacation/leave allotments for this.
In general, better to come clean at least to some degree - you would be surprised how understanding people can be (I fell pregnant 1 month after starting a new job! I really felt terrible telling my boss, but fortunately he and everyone else has been great).
If they are NOT understanding, maybe this is the sign that this company is not for you. If they are not understanding about this, they won't be when you have to go on maternity leave / have small children either.
