Depression and fertility

My sister and her partner have been trying for a baby for just over a year. She from depression, but hasn't yet sought medical treatment or counselling.
Does anyone think this could be affecting her ability to conceive? Just wondered if anyone had been through similar
thanks for your helpx

For sure

Depression will affect all aspects of her health. She should see the doctor and rule out any physical imbalances hormonally etc. Her partner should get all of his tests as well to rule out anything with him. My husband and I tried for 5 years before we found out that he was infertile. Now, I am dealing with the depression of that. It's ture that as female's we have this innate instinct to produce and carry life. When that is disrupted the body will manifest so many ailments from this broken heart. I have read so many of these replies and we are all suffering from the same thing....this broken heart. Give her a big hug, help to carry them through it and make sure that they get all the facts before they start to have misguided emotions.

Depression and fertility

There is a definite link. My husband and I have been trying for several years now and each time I hear a pregnancy announcement I get more and more depressed. I am presently off sick leave from work with depression. There has been a baby boom at work this summer and coupled with all the fertility drugs I have been taking it has messed my hormones up. Each time I have visited my GP he has told me not to try and get so stressed (easier said than done!)as it delays conception. I am starting a course of counselling next week in the hope it will get me to relax. I am also looking into reflexology. I am also starting IVF in the new year.

I would definitely advise your sister to get some counselling as it can really help.

Hope this helps. Wish your sister luck for me. She is more than welcome to email me at rachaelm_west@msn.com if she wishes.

Hi

I had a friend in the same situation and her GP told her that she would find it much harder to conceive unless she sought help for her depression.
She went through a course of cognitiove behavioural therapy, which helped enormously and fell pregnant half-way through without really trying!
I think there is a definate link.
