"French name for our baby girl"
Posted by sarahadele 2 July  at  11:07

Hi,
My husband and I are currently expecting our first baby but are having trouble coming up with names we like. I was raised in America but both my parents are French immigrants and as the baby will be taking her father's last name (George), we thought we would give her a French first name to respect my heritage. I was given the middle name of my grandmother (Adèle) and my mother would like to see that tradition continued but I don't really like her name (Luce), especially next to the last name George. We were also thinking of possibly giving the baby a German middle name because we are currently living in Berlin and want to stay here until she is old enough to go to school, but we don't actually have any German in our familes. Basically, we really have no idea what to do for a middle name and are stumped on a first name as well. Please help with any tips or advice!

possible first names:

Élise
Élodie
Isabelle
Inès
Yvette

Any other ideas? Suggestions for middle names? Which go best with George?
Thanks so much!

Hi

Yes i bet your message is quite surprising for a french as here all the babies wear american names from the TV soaps operas !

I have a good idea for the middle name, why not "Lucie" for Luce ?

* In French "Yvette" is a granny's name ! Heard in WW2 obviously, but why not. As in your country nobody knows...

* The Elodies and Isabelles are young adults about 20-30 years old (Miss Europe 2001 has been an Elodie)

* Inès and Elise are fashionable

Let us know what you choose !

It might be a long process but maybe you should have a look at http://www.babynamesworld.com and see what you like.

They have loads of French names, the origin and meaning of the names too. Its a good place to look.

Best of luck

What about Luciana Isabelle? It's pretty and that way you can honor your mother and have a middle name that you like. Inès is also very pretty.

Isabelle is one of my favorite girl names as well!

I also think Fleur is a sweet name. It means flower in French.
