Its abosolutely gorgeous, I think you should go for it. I'm Scottish and dont find it difficult to pronounce at all. I also like that it is just that bit different. Beautiful name!

We are more used to say ELEONORE, Heleonore, or Eleanore.

"Not at all" Posted by spongebob151 2 March at 17:57
It just sounds too old fashioned, english or french way. And you will have to correct everybody all the time and as Julie said it'll be turned into Ally very quick. But if it's ok with you, go for it!

"If i may give some advice" Posted by missaleko 1 March at 19:28
I think Aliénor sounds quite pretty, but it's a bit old-fashioned (and so is Eleanor); moreover, have you noticed that Aliénor sounds a bit like "aliénée" ("lunatic", for non-French speakers) ? Even if the child is raised in England, she's got French origins, and I suppose she'll be able to speak French as well, so then...

"Accent" Posted by daisy260 31 January at 14:54
British people probably won't know what to do with the accent, because we don't have them it can be a bit confusing!

I'm married to a Frenchman and we live in France. It's so difficult to find a nice name for both countries. If you both like Eléanor then go for it ! We like Zoe but we are going to write it Zoé. Do remember if you want the English to pronounce it like the French you are going to have to correct them every time but it's not that difficult to say and i'm sure the English could make an effort ! Julie, in Normandy.

je me suis trompée de prénom dans mon dernier message. Si vous aimez Aliénor allez y ! C'est l'Europe, si les anglais ne peuvent pas accepter un accent où allons nous ! Julie in Normandy

Les anglais ont toujours tendance à racourcir les prénoms de toute façon. Ils vont peut être opter pour la solution façile et l'apeller Ally même si vous même vous ne le faites pas ! Julie
