I am a French student doing a masters degree in English and this year my work consists in writing a research paper centred on American first names!
Please help me by answering this survey!

PS: By American I mean from the United States. I know that people from Canada or South America are just as American, but for commodity I choose to employ the term just for our US friends I dont wish to vex anyone of course ^^

1) Is there such thing as a typical American name? Do you think that there are names that are specific to the United States?


2) Do you have examples in mind?


3) In the same way, do you think there are trends in naming that are specific of the United States? Which ones?
(tip: surnames as first names? Juniors? Invention? Place names?)


4) Do you think it is possible to tell precisely if someone is from the US, from England or from Australia (for instance) just by their names?


5) Over all, how would you define an American baby name? Is there such thing? What makes it American?
(tip: etymology? citizenship? popularity? symbolic? medias?)


6) Are these names American to you? (Which would you consider exclusively/mostly American, which would apply to both your countries and which you think would be essentially British (are there any?)). Can you tell why?
