My partner is insisting the baby has a biblical name, but i don't want it too. advise needed.

Ok I am pregnant with my first baby and my partners family have a tradition whereby all boys have biblical names. which limits me to probably around 30 what i would deem as 'normal' names. The only biblical names I like for boys are Samuel, Ethan and Jacob. My partners name is Samuel, and ethan and jacob are just too popular. I wanted my baby to have an unusual name without it being too weird. I had my heart set on calling it Ellis if it was a boy but my partner has now dropped the bombshell that its got to be biblical as its a family tradition. I'm not happy about this but he won't budge which has caused serious rows. Should I just give up now and go along with it??? or can anyone suggest any other nice biblical names please? Any replies are gratefully received.

Hi

Hi,
which name did you choose??
I just wanted to add something: Our first dauhter is called Hannah Elisabeth. When I was pregnant with my second child, we decided to limit ourselves: A biblical name and a name of a saint - but I have to say, we are both not keen on religion. It was just to make it easier to find a name. So our son is Jonas Severin (and our third child, a dauhter, is Ruth Marie). -
But we live in Austria, and its difficult to compare the ... feelings ... ... with an English name.

All the best for you and your baby!

Ellis is derived from a biblical name

I don't know if I am too late with this post but - Ellis is actually One of several popular names in medeival England derived from the Hebrew personal name "Elijah," or the Greek "Elias," meaning 'Jehova is God.' Maybe your partner will consider it biblical? My little boy is Malachi and we call him Ki - if we have another boy we are considering calling him Elijah and calling him Eli. I also like Noah, Jonah, Reuben, Jude or Judah, Lucas, Isaac, Matthew.......There are quite a lot of choices when you look into it. My little boy's middle name is Bernard which I really really didn't like but it was in my husband's family for generations so I agreed to it. I did not see it as giving in because the name was really important to my husband and he had to have some input too and family connections are really important. If you stand your ground will it be worth the rows and resentment in the future? Compromise is always better than 'winning'. I have actually really come to like Bernard and think it sounds nice with Malachi - I love the meaning - Bold as a bear - because I want my son to live his life with boldness and courage. Maybe you could find something with an important meaning to you. Or perhaps call him Samuel Ellis but use Ellis as the name he is called - I know lots of people who are known by their middle name. Anyway, I hope you work something out htat you are both happy with.

Caden/cayden

Sod tradition if you don't want a biblical name it's not fair for your partner to impose it!!

Is Caden/Cayden bibilical?? Thought was quite cool.

Neila xx

Don't give in! it is your baby too!

The problem with these situations is that someone has to give in...and my feeling is, why should it be you? I think you should really try to come up with a biblical name that you like but if you genuinely can't then you can't name your baby something you don't like for the sake of a tradition that you had nothing to do with. Couldn't you have a biblical name for the middle name, or have it for the first name on his birth certificate and yet call him by his second name, that could be Ellis, which by the way I love. Don't be pushed around though! You HAVE to like the name and they have to see that.

Some ideas..

Some biblical names that i think are nice

Mathias
Theo
Issiah
Jossiah
Jadon - My little boys name

You could keep everyone happy

How about Gabe ? I think its a great name for a boy. Sounds like a film star.

On his birth certificate Gabriel Then everyone would be happy and when he grows up he can use either version.

Zaccius - shortened to Zac. I imagine a real cool dude of a kid.

Joseph shortened to Joe is also a good one.

If you really hate them though. How about a compromise and use a biblical name as his middle name.

Good luck.

Levi

I named my son Levi. It is a biblical name but I don' think sounds too biblical and it is also not too common.

Biblical boys names

Eli is a biblical name isnt it? And its pretty similar to Ellis
I also really like Isaac for a boy and Noah, which are both biblical names.
Caleb is quite cute aswell
Gideon is quite unusual

Hope this helps! xx

Biblical names

Hi, I would like to name my child after a bible character also, so I think Reuben, Asher, Darias, Micah, Gabriel are all lovely names. Hope that helps?

Biblical names

Well theres the following:

Matthew
Mark(Marc)
Luke(I like this)
John(Jon)
Joseph
Noah
Cane

All of these (maybe not Cane) go well with Ellis as a middle name I think.

Thats about all I can think of at the mo without actually going and getting a bible.

Hope you sort it out hun xx
