Wonder if anyone can ease my paranoia? I've just had a baby boy and my husband and I named him Mackenzie. We live in Scotland, Mackenzie is my husbands middle name and was his grandmothers maiden name, so we felt it was very appropriate.

However, since he was born I found out that Mackenzie is an increasingly popular GIRLS name in America, and I am paranoid that will come over here!

Despite it being 90th most popular name for boys in Scotland last year and that it means "SON of the wise leader/handsome one", can anyone reassure me that this is a masculine name and the girl thing is just a fashion?

Mackenzie as a boy's name

Hi there. i cam e across your post because I too am paranoid for the same reason, but worse still I live in the US! Both of my parents were born and raised in the UK, my dad in Scotland, and my husband's heritage is Scottish. His middle name is also MacKenzie so we named our son that last year. We live near NY and I knew that some girls were called MacKenzie but now realize it is pretty much an exclusively female name in the US, which is so strange because it means Son Of ....and seems very masculine to me. Anyway, how has your experience been? Still mostly boys with this name over there? Our son is one now but I worry about him going to school with a girls name. We're thinking of calling him Mack which isn't as attractive but is certainly masculine!

Mackenzie

I think the name "Mackenzie" is a lovely name for both female and males. I have a female friend called Alesha Mackenzie and a male friend call Mackenzie Tyler!

Yes and no

I personally think of Mackenzie as a girl's name seeing as it is used as a girl's name here in the US. My younger cousin's name is Paige Mackenzie and it is very popular amongst young girls here. However, seeing as it is a Scottish surname, I can see how it can be used for boys, although I have a hard time seeing this.

But RELAX! I'm a girl and my name is Blair and there are a lot of people who I'm sure would think of my name as a boys name and I love it to death. I mean sure, I get pissed when I see people using my name, which I think as being very girly and feminine, as a boy's name but it's beautiful regardless of gender. So quit you're fretting!

"yes and no "

I think Mackenzie for girl's name is a little weird.. I heard so many boys with that name... but no worries.. don't think what other people say, if you like it just go for it

Name mackenzie for a boy

Hi Lyn

I have rencently read your post and I too have had great regrets about calling my little boy Mackenzie who was two in October. When I was pregrant I read an article about Fiona Phillips the GMTV presenter who was talking about her sons, one who's name was 'Mackenzie' and my husband and I fell in love with it, thinking that the shortened version of 'Mack' was great too. I have heard that the name is becoming very popular for girls in America, but it is popular for both boys and girls in the UK, boys more so! So don't worry I have got over my mine and just enjoy! When I ask my little boy what his name is he replies "Mackenzie William", William being his middle name and it sounds so cute and masculine!!

Mackenzie

My son is also called Mackenzie and we live in Scotland too. It is most definately a boys name hence the meaning 'SON OF...etc' We have been a bit worried about this too but it's such a good strong name and suits our 'Mackie' perfectly.

Great choice!

Mackenzie

I think its lovely for a wee boy the meaning says it all in my opinion.
My sis and i recently discussed this name after some1 named there wee girl Mckenzie and we both thought it was more of a boys name!
I'm having similar, decided to name my son Caedan after searching through boys names on a website, since then seen it on other sites under girls. The thing is nowadays lots of names are used for both genders so it comes down to personal choice.

Mackenzie

I think this is a girls name just because I live in the USA. Heck, my name might be a boys name in some other country. I would not worry about it. Enjoy!

Mackenzie

Hi I wouldn't worry, boys names have been used as girl names for ages and its not been an issue. My daughter is Mykenzie but we know alot of boys Mackenzie. I had the same worry that they would think it was a boys name.If you like it and it has meaning for you then stuff what others think.
Alesha

Dont worry

Although it is increasingly being used for girls in America i think Personally that it is definately a very masculine name. Fiona Phillips from GMTV has two sons one called Nathaniel and her other is Mackenzie.
I have Chosen Old Fashioned names for my kids, George, Elinor, Darcie and Fern, but i think Macenzie is lovely for a little boy and very scotish. can use Mac or Kenzie for nn.

Honest from one brit to another Mackenzie is great!!

Love pam x x

Mackenzie

MacKenzie is EXTREMELY popular in America/Canada for a girls name. I live in Australia now, there are many boys with the name of Mackenzie and is very manly, I think it's to masculine for a girl, it's much better for a boy. My husbands name is Ian Mackenzie and he is extremely masculine.

Calm down!
