I never heard of the name mannix before but I am not too sure if it is of Celtic origin, the reason i think this is because the Irish alphabet does not contain the letters J, K, Q, W, X or Y. I may be mistaken as it could be a different spelling of a name that was originally celtic!

My daughters name is Aoise and its actually Swahili spelt- (Eshe) and it means life. I chose to spell it the Irish way of Aoise. Hope this helps.

Due to my husbands family we have named our girls using Irish/celtic names.
Keely and Mykenzie ( originally Scot but has the celtic spelling, so Ive been told).
One boys name my husband has loved ( im not to sure about) is mannix for a boy.

Mannix is the usual form in English of the Gaelic name O'Mainchin pronounced O'Manheen.The name was anglicised as Ireland was subjected to British rule and it became quite dangerous to have a Gaelic surname.The name o'Mainchin is taken from the Gaelic manarch a monk,to do with the duties of a monk.So there you have a small Irish genealogical lesson.
