"Scandinavian names"
Posted by dkdawn 1 October  at  14:49

I am from Denmark.

Ingrid, Greta and Oscar are not usual names to give your children in Denmark, and I think it is the same in the other scandinavian contries. The names are considered old-fashioned.
In Denmark we use a lot of english and christian names.

Maybe you could take a look at his site:
http://www.dst.dk/Statistik/Navne/bestemt_aar/2005-1.aspx

It shows the most popular girls-names (pigenavne) and boys-names (drengenavne), that were given to danish children last year.

"From germany"
Posted by telsche1 29 October  at  16:39

Hi!
I am from Germany and I can say that the name Greta is going to be popular again!
In Germany children are often named after their grandparents the last time. Such as Martha (which was the name of my grandmother) Katharina (my other grandmother) Greta, Paula,
In Germany we use quite a lot American names as well such as Kevin, Dennis,...
My girls are named Femke Susann and Martje Christin. If I had a boy I would have named him Mats Eric or Leif or Paul or Finn.
Typical german boys names are:
Carsten (either with K)
Claus (either with K)
Andreas
Christian/Christof (Christoph)
Dirk
Thomas (Tomas)
Thorsten (Torsten)
Ernst (is oldfashioned)
Emil (oldfashioned but coming back)
Frank
Georg (oldfashioned)
Horst, Harald, Hans, Hermann (oldfashioned -I would choose other names! )
Ingo
Jens
Stefan

Girls names:

Amelie
Anna/Anne
Annette (Annett)
Andrea
Beate
Birte
Christina (Kristina/Kristine)
Dorothea (oldfashioned but coming back)
Elvira (oldfashioned)
Hanna
Ingrid (oldfashioned)
Iris
Johanna
Katharina (e)
Katrin
Lea
Lydia
Monika
Marie/Maria
Marlene
Paula
Regina/Regine
Rosi/Rosemarie
Stefanie
Sandra
Sonja

There are many more. If you like to get more just contact me!
Greetings from Telsche (another old german name, but very rare )
