| Thread started by: | "Should i wake baby for his feed?" Posted by babygirlhall 13 September at 12:57
Hi, My boy is now 7wks old and i sometimes have to wake him for his feed. Sometimes he goes past four hours and i dont know if i should wake him or not. I worry that if he misses a feed he might wake up more than once in the night. When i do wake him he does not always want to have his milk, he falls asleep on the bottle and only has a small amount. Can any one give me any advice, it would be really helpful.
Thank you Marie x

Hi Marie, I have the same problem with my daughter. She is a week +1 and mostly she wakes every four for a feed but sometimes I feel I ought to wake her. I leave her to sleep because she obviousy needs it but when she wakes she is very hungry. I don't like to think I'm starving her but she does take more food if she's really hungry than when I wake her where she falls asleeep on the bottle and then wakes up more at night. It's difficult but I'm trying to go with her pattern!!

Hi Marie
My son is now 2 weeks old and I have the same problem, I spoke to the midwife about this and she told me that i need to wake him for a feed as he should be taking every 3-4 hours.
Hope this helps

as long as your babies are all gaining weight, have regular wet nappies then leaving them to sleep should be fine. babies change day to day. somedays you will find they feed more often than 4 hours, others they may go 5-6 hours. remember - you cannot force feed a baby!! also, if you keep trying a baby with milk they may puke. if they do they may then want more milk to fill up again. it also varies with breast & bottle fed babies - breast fed will feed about 2-4hrly & bottle fed about 4hrly. if you evaluate a 3-4 day period you will probably find they catch up and slow down. it carries on when they are on food, so this is only the beginning for you guys!!
hope this helps
