"When is it ok to start giving him solids?"
Posted by babygirlhall 17 September  at  18:10

My little boy is only 2 months but his milk does not appear to be enough for him. He was 8 13 when born and now at 2 months is 12lbs. Im wondering if because he is a bigger baby he needs more food, something more filling. I know the books say weaning should start at about 4 months but why is this? Would it be bad for the baby to give it sooner? He is not sleeping through the night yet and is usually up once - sometimes twice! Hungry! Was thinking maybe one 5ml spoon of babys firt rice might make all the difference? My mum said she started giving us some solids at about 2-3 months and that the docs/health visitors said that was ok, why is everything so different now?

Please help, first time mum!

Thanks

Have you tried giving your son the next babymilk up.(for hungryer babies). my son is a very hungry baby so i went from sma gold to sma red. he still has the same amount of milk but its more filling for him. It will make the baby more colicky because the milk stays in the stomac for longer. My son had longer gaps in between feeds when on the red milk.
I wouldnt start feeding your son solids until 4 months at least. A lot has changed since we were little and no one would suggest feeding before 4 months now.
I hope i have beeen some help
GOODLUCK

ive got a 6 month old son. i started weaning him at 4 months. the reason you shouldnt start is because of thier stomachs. i was told and read somewhere that they cant handle that sort of stuff too young. try givin him more milk. even before bed you should dream feed him. which means give him extra milk until he stops drinking that way it will last him all nite. you can start putting 1-2 scoops of baby rice in his milk at about 3 months. that is what i did. then at 4 months i stared him on solids. such as baby rice, baby purees. hope this info will help.
