It's obviously up to you about the juice, bout have u tried adding a little bit of brown sugar? It's a better taste for your baby and it helps them go to the toilet!

"Baby fruit juice - is it ok before 4 months?"
Posted by babygirlhall 20 September  at  14:18

Hi,
My son is now 2 months +1 and I have been thinking of buying the special fruit juice they do for babies. At the moment he drinks lots of cool boiled water and i thought it would be nice to add a tiny bit of juice to his water but they all say 4 months plus. Has any one given then this drink before 4 months? Because its not like its solids, would his tummy be ready for juice?

Thanks

"Try and see"

I am not from this forum however i do have a daughter aged 6 and know alot from experience.

My thoughts are to try and see, if his tummy isnt ready for it he will let you know. I would try giving him a tiny bit first and see how he goes. All babies are different. My daughter was on solids at 3 months bcoz the milk wasnt doing much good so it just goes to show that there isnt a specific age its just a guidline.

Hope he gets on okay

Hi Libbyp

Hope that you will get this seeing that u are not from the forum and that you posted your comment ages ago.

My baby is now 11 weeks, she stays hungry, the formula says she should have 150ml water mixed with 5 scoops of formula, this is NAN. At times she can take two of these bottles within an hour! She has alot of wet diapers due to all the liquids.

My mom suggested adding rice cereal to her formula? I see in the shops that all the cereals either starts from 4 months or 6 months, did your child cope well? I am so afraid to cause any damage to my baby.

Hi aliciawalsh

I dont normally write on this forum but was browsing today while my two little ones are asleep. I would try in your case to switch to a formula for hungrier babies. You should be able to get this in the chemist if not at the supermarket. Are you sure your kid is hungry and not just very sucky? Are you holding off on a dummy, or has she found her fingers yet? Is she gaining weight too fast? Is she sleeping through the night?

I dont know about giving rice. I am 33 years old, and my mum said we and our cousins were given rice very early to try to get us to sleep through the night. This is not recommended these days. Come to think of it, most of us dont have particularly good digestion, which may or may not be related to that.

I guess I am saying there may be other reasons other than real hunger why she takes two bottles in an hour. If she is a strong sucker (like my first baby) you could try a very slow teat. I would be very reluctant to give her much more than the recomended amount of milk for her age on a regular basis.

I dont want to get blasted for this, but my sister in law did this with her little girl, who was a chubby infant, a very chubby toddler and is now an obese 9 year old, which is very difficult for her in school.

Take Care

Siobhan
