Hi,
I have had my son who is now 15wks (weighs 14lb 9 oz and was 8lb 13oz born)on SMA white for hungrier babies for about 6wks and it does not help at all! My son started on SMA gold from birth but would not go more than 3hrs between feeds and was taking upto 8 ounces a time. I then decided to try him on SMA white, he now only takes approx 5 ounces because the milk is thicker but only goes 2-3 hrs between each feeds! All i do is feed, feed, feed!He gets so wound up and upset when he is hungry that there is no way i can do anything to amuse him to try and get him to go longer, the only thing that keeps him quite is feed him. I cant see that this milk is helping at all. I have also tried cow & gate comfort (as advised by my health visitor) and he would go about 3-4 hours between feeds but his tummy got really upset and his dirty nappies smelt like rotten eggs! He also got loads of reflux with it and he has never been a sicky baby. I know he is still young but he has only ever slept through the night about 4 times (not one after the other), sometimes he wakes once or twice and other times he can wake upto 8 times a night, he can also take upto 30 mins to settle back down. All my family/friends who have had babies 10+ yrs ago are telling me to try giving him a bit of baby rice before 1 or 2 of his feeds but the health visitors say not till 6months eventhough the food packets say 4months plus! What do i do?! Im really strugling, the hv/doc have told me i have a bit of post natal depression and the doc has tried to get me to take anti-dep tablets which i dont want to do. I know if i could get the baby sorted i would be ok, at this rate i get no rest during the day and hardly any at night. Really dont know what to do, if anyone has any ideas or tips please please PLEASE let me know.

Thanks all

Marie & Joshua

I spoke to my doctor about this b/c my youngest was like yours (he's 1 now). My doctor said DON'T give him rice cereal in a bottle. He said that 1.) his digestive system is too young to handle it even if you don't see any ill effects right now. As an adult he could develop "Acid Reflux" (which happened to my brother in law, my mother in law did it). 2.) He said that to give him rice cereal / baby food should be when they're older to "teach" them how to appreciate different foods other than formula and teach them how to eat.

My son's doctor said that it could be something else that he's crying for. He could be colic (my first son was like that and there's not much you can do) or maybe have you tried a pacifier? It also could be gas and my youngest was gassy all the time even after I burped him. I gave him Gas Drops and it helped but didn't solve the issue.

My son is 9wks old and I give him one spoon of baby rice with 20 spoons of baby milk (he can drink this from his bottle) just before he goes to bed, it satisfies him for the night. His bowel is fine so im sure the baby rice isnt effecting him at all. I think the ages stated on things are guidelines and the mum knows better, after all we do have to put up with our lovely little bundles 24/7

It took me a lot of consideration before I started giving my boy baby rice but I know a lot of people that are giving their babies it before 4 months and my mum gave it to me at 8wks

Hope this helps about baby rice

Hi,
Thank you so much for replying to my post, its really great to know that other mums have started their babies on baby rice earlier than 4-6 months. I have been thinking about it since i posted my letter and have decided to start giving him some baby rice, after reading your reply im now even more sure that its the right thing to do for my baby. Thanks again for your help.
