Hi everyone
My first post in the UK forum, usually read the Spanish one
Ok, so I'm going trough a hard time here in Madrid. I'm 25, my son will turn 2 in May, his dad and I no longer live together (we get along, but he's not a big help) and things at work are getting soooo crappy... I feel like a need a huge change in my life, as if I was sinking or something.
I have a good job and earn enough, but since I'm alone I have to take care and pay everything myself, and thats a huge amount of money each month.
I've been thinking on moving to London/ Manchester, settle there, try and find a job and all, and go look for the life I want to live. I studied Advertising and PR at uni, but really wouldn't mind any job, something to start with.
OK... to make it short:
What i would need to know is how is education working in the UK, either if there are public nurseries, what age do kids start school, how does the doctor work for toddlers and all that.
I've been searching the web, found some info but I really need a helping mum who can give me some advice on how to start, where to go,...
Any help will be really appreciated, I will even bring you some souvenir from Spain if you encourage me enough to start this new adventure.
Thanks a lot x

Hi there, There is so much help here in the uk for single parents wanting to study! your son is too young yet for for school as they start at 4, but there are plenty of day nursaries that will take him on at this age but i would advise you shop around as some can be quite pricey. I know that some colleges have creche's but not sure about uni's. I myself am going back to study, i live in canterbury, kent and we have a huge gollege here and 2 universaties, my youngest will be 2 in aug and my middle child starts school in sept,so i'll wait till then so then i only have to find care for 1. Once they turn 3, children are entitled to school vouchers, i get them now for my 3 yr old and she goes to a public nursery from 9.00am till 11.30am,mon to fri, which isn't long but as im not busy its not a problem, but u can use them in a private day nursery to help towards costs of a placement and their hours are from 8.00am till 6.00pm so depending on your hours thats probably your best bet. But you are entitled to help and they so eager to help here. Good luck anyway in what you decide to do! let me know how you get on and if you need to know anything else!! Katie.xx
