Constipation

Hey!... yes me again...sorry i havent answered to other threads at the moment im new to it all.

Rosie is still constipated, im convinced its because she has gone from breast to formula even though she is getting some of my expressed milk. Anywho im using SMA Gold, ive re-searched this constipation thing and most people recommend going over to a different formula usally cow & gate / Apramil.

I have Health Visitor tomorrow but its really upsetting seeing her in so much discomfort trying to poo ive tried...cooled boiled water, rubbing her stomach, stretching her knees up and moving them in circles she just seems to fart which is good because its helping in some way but still no poo and its been 24 hours!!! HELP??

Thanks

for replys girls!... i think we will switch to Aptamil but you have to introduce it dont you or can you just switch?... also how do you get you bottles ready etc? as your not allowed to keep pre made ones in fridge so im finding myself making a bottle everytime she is hungry but whilst making it she goes into a crying fit which im trying to avoid as she gets all unsettled before her feed.

aptamil

Hi hun,

We had the same problem when we switched Olivia from breast to bottle. We started her on SMA Gold and found she was really clogged up but when we swapped her to Aptamil she was absolutely fine. All babies are obviously different but if SMA's causing her trouble I definately suggest trying Aptamil. Olivia's been happily guzzling it ever since!

Hope Rosie's feeling better soon!

Hey lucy,

not gonna be that much help I'm afraid, you've tried most of the tricks I know to already! Know my friends little girl had this problem and her GP advised a little fresh orange juice, boiled first and I think diluted but not too sure, I would probably wait til you've spoken to your HV before trying anything like that though. You're probably right it will be the change in feed that's causing it, formula takes twice as long to digest and Kaitlyn went from pooing at pretty much every feed while I was bf to once a day as soon as I swapped to formula, only difference is she didn't seem uncomfortable with it like Rosie. She has been constipated more recently though and I tried everything with no joy then someone advised just a little brown sugar in an oz or so of cool boiled water and half an hour later, bingo! Worth a try if you haven't already, won't do any harm as a one off anyway. Hope you get some movement soon hun,

love,
Clare and Kaitlyn (7 months) xxx
