When to drop the night-time feed?

Hi girls,

George is four months old and has five bottles of six ounces a day. He has them at 7am, 11am, 2pm, 6pm, and 10:30pm.

He goes to bed at 7pm so we have to wake him for his last feed. It seems a bit daft because he is so deeply asleep at 10:30pm, but I feel like he has to have that feed because otherwise he'll only be having 24oz a day instead of 30oz.

What are your thoughts on this - what did you do? When did you stop giving the night-time feeds?

My OH has just asked me if I could increase the four day-time feeds to replace the one night-time feed, but my concern is that George might not go through the night after all! Having said that, I don't want to be waking George unnecessarily. I don't want him to get used to waking at 10:30pm and then down the line this screws up his sleeping.

Thanks!

Love from Bec and George (4 months and 1 week)

Hi

I dropped Frankie's dream feed when he was about 11 months old. I was giving him 7 oz of aptimil follow on 5 bottles a day inc 11 pm. He would be asleep from 7 pm so i'd wake him for it sometimes he would only take about 2 or 3 ounces sometimes he'd guzzle the lot. When it became regular that he only wanted a little i stopped giving it, then i found he would wake crying about 1 am, so that put me off stopping it for awhile. I had a few weeks of him waking for a bit in the night but i think that was habit, i had to sit in his room stroking his head til he settled, it took a couple of weeks to break the habit but now he sleeps from 8pm ish all thru the night, (unless his not well with a temp or teeth probs which is rare). He is 14 months now and we're having the best sleep ever, now i'm waiting for number 2 too come along and start all over again lol. good luck

Hi there,

I was wondering the same thing, Emily's last feed is at 10pm and she is sooo sleepy and really manages only 2-3 ounces. We are probably going to wean in a few weeks so perhaps once we are weaning we will drop the last feed just to see if Emily still goes through the night...

Hiya hunny

George has a similar routine to his day as Riley had when he was smaller, Rileys last feed was at midnight.
I kept up with his last feed untill he was well established with weaning. I found that he just naturally managed to drop the feed without even noticing! He woke up for maybe a day or two but was quickly settled back to sleep.
Once riley was 6 months i did start do use the goodnight milk which is a thicker formula, but i have just recently stopped and given him cows milk as he is 13 months x
Hope this is of some use hunny x x x x

Hmmmmm

Does George take the full bottle at his 10pm feed? I used to give Scarlett a dream feed at 10ish and after a while she would hardly have any of it so i dropped it, but she never slept through the night anyway, not until she was about 10 months old, so i dont know if dropping the 10pm feed made any difference or not to her sleeping through.

Once you start to wean george you will naturally drop bottles anyway as he will be more full up on food so the 10pm bottle would defo be the first one to be dropped.

Hi hun

i'm not really sure about the answer to be honest, but just wanted to say that we always were told to take siri's adjusted age into account with everything, especially when she was under 4.5 months (or in her case 3 months)
think it's easy to forget when they are growing so fast that they were so early

hope you are all well hun!

hugs
